DV-in will probably cost you around GBP100 more, as such cameras have an extra "tax", because, perish the though, you might want to record something!!

Another ruling that we can thank the EU for

Question

Hi Guys,

I'm looking to buy a camcorder in the next few months (impending new arrival!!) and wanted to see if anyone has any recomendations. I'm looking at around £500 and would prefer a digital with DV in/out. Heard Sony are the best...

Any advise / comments welcome..

Cheers

I too was told that Sony was the best, so I went out and bought one. It lasted 13 months before it went wrong. It had just three hours recording on it. Phoned Sony to ask if they thought their products should last for more than three hours use. All they said was that it had a twelve month warranty so tough ****.Hence I wont recomend Sony . Just my view from personal experience.

Mini Dv is probably the best format avaliable at the moment - the camcorders are pretty much the same make irrespective - they all use the same chips and mechanism.

aim for a 3CCD - 3 chip - better in low light and most conditions.

Find a Panasonic - they sell for a price that doesn't include dv in/out BUT before buying it, find an remove the camcorder's blanking plate and hey presto - a DV in/out that they disabled for the European market!

After buying the camcorder, you can buy a floppy for £35 which when hooked up to the camcorder will enable the dv in/out.

For 500 quid!!

For that sort of cash you're fairly limited. Second hand may be an option, but be VERY careful as the heads can go which is expensive!

If you want new, then its probably going to be a standard size (tiny ones cost 800 quid upwards).

Buy something that just has DV output and check somewhere like
