I'm a bit out of touch on this one as my current set has been doing me proud for the last 12 years!!!!

However, make sure you get a six face set and not a 12 face set - the 12's are a sign of cheap and nasty usually!!!

Snap On are the only ones that come to mind but unless you're minted, they would probably be a bit on the expensive side.

Cool

Have a look at the Facom stuff in your local Halfords superstore, it is ridiculously expensive but if you don't lose it it will last several lifetimes.

If you want cheap but good try the Halford Professional range. Good quality but dont break the bank. I saw a Porsche cup team using them if that counts.

Mark

Avoid Draper and Sealey. I broke Draper socket and ground the sides off the Sealey one.

Halfords Pro are very good. But for the very best. Fly to the States and buy "CRAFTMAN" from "Sears"shops.Much better than the new "SNAP ON". The old stuff was good. The reason a lot of mechanics like it is 1. They Buy it to look "cool". 2.It is normaly sold on credit

If you can afford it go Snap On. I'm a mechanic, I use Snap on every day, it's expensive, it was on credit, I look cool but it is honestly good gear! I thought a ratchet was a ratchet but having swapped from Bergen to Snap On the difference is unbeleivable.

The Facom stuff in Halfords does look good but having never used it I can't really give an opinion.

I can recomend Teng tools, they're probably mid range tools, no Snap On but better than the likes of draper etc.

At the end of the day it's your descision but I'd recomend that you buy the best you can afford, don't just buy something cos it's cheaper than the next.

I got a multi-drawer top box (in red) with about a zillion sockets, allen keys, screwdrivers, screwdriver bits (including Torx bits etc), spanners etc. for £100. The kit is made by Power Devil (the guys who do cheap drills/sanders etc.)

It is perfect for me who goes into the garage to pretend I'm doing stuff on the car, when in fact it is just to get out of the house

Seriously, it is an OK kit, I would say the quality/strength/life is probably middling.

I have also bought a few bits from the Halfords Pro range. Good quality, seems well made.

Talk to a professional mech. who needs tools every day and many will say Snap-On, but they ain't cheap.

Cheers

If you want it guarenteed for life, then go for either:

Britool
Beta
Snap-on/Blue Point

Snap-on is the most expensive, to be honest, there isnt much between them in quality

The Halfords Pro range is quite good...

I agree with Luke , I was bought a Halfords Pro set for Christmas (from parents) , cost around £100 , but supposedly has a lifetime warranty , and are of very good quality.
