I don't think the words "IT Professionals" and "Chicks" really go together do they?
Anyone see the Simpsons yesterday when Homer setup his Internet Company?? Absolutely classic

Just spent an hour walking into work because the money grabbing tube workers have gone on striike again. Like £25k and 8 weeks holiday for standing on a friggin platform isn't enough! Now if they were striking over the new uniforms they have to wear...

If they are striking about safety, fair enough. I've been too busy to read my paper the last few days, so I assumed it was over money. It's pretty bad when rail workers have to strike about something like safety. I think most tube travellers would be prepared to pay more money if was to be spent on improving safety. I should also be glad I don't have to travel by overground train any more.

Apparently they are striking for a pay rise
Fair enough they only get £27K for a 30 hour week with 8 weeks hoilday
and its a very skilled job -
Having to stay awake while doing **** all is very demanding and also the ability to hit a big red button in front of you if anything goes wrong takes some remembering.
So all in all a 12% pay rise is totaly justified (;
Tal
having to drive along thoughs little narrow tracks without failing off is a highly skilled job you know !!

Tal,
I've wondered about this. Why do they pay airline pilots so much money?
Why do they pay IT "professionals" so much? Wasn't the world turning before all this work was made up?
Kicking a football and running about. Now there's a skilled profession.
Money for nothing and yer chicks for free.
Depends on your perspective really.

The thing that I've never been able to understand is the 'them' and 'us' mentality in organisations.
Surely both management and unions would gain more from an inclusive policy.
I don't agree that people should receive pay increases across the borad. They should receive increases proportionate to the contribution they make to the profitability of the company.
If people work 9-5 and a poor job they should just get a basic package. If people work 7-7 and do a poor job they should just get a basic package. If people work 10-4 and make a big contribution, they should get a better package.
Finally, 'jobs for life' is a myth. It is time the unions recongnized this.

Living in Utopia again ?
The idea of Unions is to protect the rights of all workers, so that someone who is "victimised" (by no pay rise) can claim that he has been descriminated against on the grounds he didn't get one 'cos he does the same job as the man next door (who works hard & contributes)
All a load of PC (Politically Correct ) b/**** IMHO
I am 100% behind your concept tho.

...and my ten minute walk to Liverpool Street took about 50% longer tonight because of all those dippy dithering extra pedestrians that only use their legs once a year when there is a strike.....

mutant_matt (and Blow Dog and other?),
i am down on Moorgate (between said station and Bank) next week (as well as last). Maybe a non-car meet is in order!!!!
As for the strike, i must admit that i support their official cause - PPP is a recipe for disaster (they will be doing the same for air traffic control next ).
I am not a Labour voter, but Ken L has a point!

Seems BAA have now decided we can stay in the short term car park at £13 per day , or, go to the new mid term parking - a bus ride away - that puts another 40 mins on my 13.5 hour day - yeah, right.
The shortage of parking is only created by them wanting to build a hotel on the car park they put in only two years ago, thus losing 600 spaces, whils simultaneously decking over the other short term spaces thus losing another 600 spaces at a time in the process........
I do love monopolies.......
