Anybody who opens up an exe from an email ESPECIALLY from a stranger deserves everything he/she gets.

You really gotta be stupid to fall into these traps. All it needs is a little common sense.

Most of the new viruses are internet worms which are mostly mass mailers so it's not always easy to tell if the message from a friend has been sent by them or by the virus behind their back. A good rule of thumb is that if the subject line or main text body is begging you to open the attachment up "DONT" or at least scan it first.
This info comes straight from a Network Associates seminar I attended today.
