Anyone got PS2 lip sync fixed?
#4
I've only had lipsynch problems on one DVD. (Ali G Aaiiii,) although I use the DVD quite a bit. The problem always happened in a different place, but when I got the disk changed I haven't had a problem since.
I haven't checked the driver version, but it was one of the original ones.

when I told him about the problem he wasnt too impressed & tried to ring the Irish helpline no.....which aint working for some strange reason!

Ive still got a lip Sync problem, even on the replacement machine.
I just hit Pause twice on the Logic 3 dvd remote i got..... takes a nano second and all is ok again. I shall live with the problem a while longer.
Anyone know when Dark Cloud and Gun Griffen are being released. They look excellent.

All,
Just got off the phone with Sony and they have given me something to try. Under the DVD settings menu, they recommend that you go into audio setup, and turn the Dolby Digital output to off. This has a known problem of causing lip sync errors, and stupidly enough comes set to ON as standard!!
If this does not work then its got to be returned.

Greg,
I only seem to get lip sync errors on films that are single layer. With the double layered DVD's i.e. Gladiator, and Braveheart, no lip sync error at all. however on the Lost Boys etc which as far a I know are single layer, all the old lip sync problems arise. The Dolby Digital output should only be turned off if you are not using it i.e. via an optical link

Just been on the phone again to Sony, and have now got another different answer.
They told me that older DVD's will have a problem on PS2 due to the fact they were made before the PS2 was released and they were not made with in mind. He did say that all the latest DVD's will play, with no problem at all. I did by Braveheart at the weekend, and this had Lip sync problems also. Will be trying ****** tonight, as he seemed to think would be OK, but if not then they have just fobbed my off. I ask if the machine could be replaced, and they were very reluctant to do so.

That sounds like a heavy dose of bollocks that you've been given, Dunk. Are they seriously suggesting that DVDs have to be specially written to allow lip sync on a PS2???
This could be why Mission:Impossible 2 has stickers on saying "PS2 compatable"...
Don't accept it - if it's supposed to play DVDs, it should do so properly.

Chiark,
Watchdog covered this, apparently some DVDs are mastered that don't match the spec 100% and causes problems. For Toy Story 2 they actually re-mastered it after production to cure problems.
