Just suppose....My brother rented out my house to a young professional guy, who after the 6 month rental contract stayed on for an additional 4 weeks (while he was abroad) and left owing at least £400 in bills and a CCJ from the Water company.

Just suppose...My brother has yet to speak to the Water company to tell them about the owner of the CCJ and has yet to sort out the bills.

My brother has the Name, Home Phone No and Mobile No of the guy. How could my brother obtain his address in order to discuss this matter with him in person?

I've tried all the usual stuff on the Internet i.e. Yell.com, BT.com etc but to no avail. There must be an easy way of sorting this out and I know there are some pretty cunning people on the BBS - any suggestions???

My brother's pretty useless when it comes to sorting out contracts - there was one but knowing him it was meaningless.

Thanks - the 192.com search threw up an address which seems more than feasible - but I would like to reverse check his phone Nos to be sure..any suggestions?

Try the local phone book, look under name and cross check with phone number. If he's in a different town and you don't have that phone book then your local libary should have

Your brother is not liable for any services or utilities provided to another person. Write and tell the companies that this guy left with all the bills unpaid (also owing you money)and that any liability lies with the individual the services were provided to. Unless of course yor brother had all the bills in his name then charged the tenant- crazy though that sounds some people actually do that!

Don't pay a penny of someone elses debts they are nothing to do with you.

I wouldnt bother visiting the toerag its not worth the bother for a few hundred quid.

I had the tenant from hell once. Luckily at a friend's suggestion I bought a Landlord and Tenant pack from WH Smith which has a legally binding contract all drawn up and ready for signing. It helped me a lot in 'negotiations' with his parents when he became a nuisence demanding his deposit back.

Beware of Council Tax though (I bet he did not pay this either). With hindsight I would pay it for a tenant myself and add it to the rent.

Get someone to ring him and pretend they are the bank wishing to confirm his address.
I've done this a few times and inevitably it works.

Wink

Thanks for the replies,

I've had a friend pop around to the address and confirm his car was outside...a result! As suggested I'll make sure all the utility companies will soon be in possession of his address for billing purposes.
