Question

...is it correct that you can only use your no claims bonus on a single car? i.e. buying a second car means starting from scratch with no ncb??

It does. Unless you add that car as a second car on the same policy, then it can cover you for both.

Hello

Quite a few insurance companies will take your first car into account and will start you with quite a high no-claims discount on your second car.

It helps (in my experience) if you use the same broker to get you the insurance on both vehicles.

Worth trying admiral - they gave me a 3 year discount when I opened up a second policy a few years ago after I noticed how much my fuel bills were costing me on my 300ZX.

admiral will now match the no claims on the second car as an incentive.

I have two cars, the second is taxed and insured byt a trader friend of mine, I drive it third party on the clause in my own policy.

I am now in the throws of getting it its own dedicated poilcy as privilege are being very accomodating and allowing me a decent introductory discount, but then I have been with them for over 5 years.

I got 40% also on a second car, it really depends how hard the broker is prepared to work on your behalf... I told mine to go away and try again when they said I would have no NCB discount on a second car.

Cool

My second car is insured on a limited mileage (4k) classic policy, they come with protected NCB anyway.

Move to Holland - both cars insured under my wife's 70% ncb and no extra premium for Ecutek 3 custom remap (Revised premium based on car value and not performance).

So if you claim on policy 2, does that affect your NCD on policy 1?

I don't think so, but if you've had an accident or claim then that in itself will count against you.

So if you claim on policy 2, does that affect your NCD on policy 1?
You only lose the no claims if you've built it up on that policy. So if you claim on policy 2, does that affect your NCD on policy 1?I made a (very very large!) claim once before and kept my no claims
