Why cant you buy Mobiles second hand?

Apart from dodgy internet auctions why cant you buy 2nd hand mobiles for about 50 quid say previous year or so's model in the little second hand shops around towns?
I dont wanna pay £100 to replace my old 3210 and there are millions of people who upgrade to the latest phones each year - so where are all their old ones?
Don't want any dodgy 'I can get you one of those ' merchants though lol....

I think all the older trade-ins get punted to developing countries mate.
If you go to Cambodia you'll find they can't feed themselves but at least they can talk to each other on a 3210 !
You should be able to get off-line models which are returns for less on some sites.

Rob,
Those 2nd hand phones are sold on, at very good prices. The thing is that SIM FREE phones are very sought after since the laws for phone theft etc.
It used to be very easy to "acquire" a phone and find someone to delock it. Since network providers have started locking phones when they have been reported stolen (either legitametly or via insurance fraud), the price of pucka 2nd hand phones has shot through the roof. Network providers only used to lock the SIM cards, now they block the phone as well. Since the clamp down on phone related thefts and activitys, people don't even want to admit that they know about changing phone IMEI numbers to unblock them, let alone actually do it.
Regards,
Shaun.
