Here we go again!!

Greedy Firemen not happy with a 11% pay offer over 2 years!!!

Lazy Firemen not wishing to pull themselves away from conditions of service laid down in 1947!!!

Its about time they either went out on FULL TIME Strike or SHUT UP!!!

Dont they remember that last time they went on strike the armies ONLY concern was BOREDOM, with very LITTLE to do!?!

Playing about with a day here and a day there is just a way of having your cake and eating it - a prime example of how their minds work!!!

They PI55 me right off!!!

I had some sympathy for regional pay diferences, but that's gone now.

Their campaign for better pay carries some weight for the London/ SE guys where their pay is hard to live on. But the way they've gone about it and the tw@t of a union leader has lead me to think f*ck em.

I quite agree that the pay is bad for the South

HOWEVER

They do so little when at work that they all have second jobs to fill in the time!!!

So, I would hazard a guess that these Firemen are on about £50,000 Gross ................... doing just the amount of work you and I do!!

Its their complete lack of intelligence that amazes?!?! They could have taken 4%, NOT modernised AND continued in their easy, cosy job!! The public wouldn't have known any difference!!

BUT NOW WE DO AND WE ARE NOT IMPRESSED!!!!!

I wonder how my friend Tony is going to find enough soldiers to cover the striking firemen if he ships them all out to help our president Bush? This would be pure comedy..

Its been seen that its the Firemen themselves who know the TV/Radio are coming and drive round and round the block - hooting!!

Also, you seen the Firemen with wistles, making noises?? Who do they think they are?? Off duty Refs?? They REALLY are a THICK bunch!!

Katana, you should see where I work (for the next 2 wks).

We're on 25% manning because of Op Fresco and the Gulf build up.

I was asked to work 3 extra wks today, but don't have to so my answer was FUKC OFF.

I'm finished with all this on 31st Jan!

That's my contract broken, leaving me to grow long hair, smoke a spliff and join the political party of my choice! Not to mention get drunk!

Had enough of it all and binned it after 12.5 yrs.

Unhappy

These are the guys that you want to risk their lives for you??? and you talk about them like they were some whining little hamburger helpers down at McDonalds.

I don't live in the UK full time and I don't read crappy newspapers like the mail and sun etc.. so I'm not full of the propoganda thats being pumped out by them. It saddens me that so many people think that 11% is enough for these guys. Most people just seem to come out with the same arguments about knock on pay rises, 4 day week etc.. the fact is that the firemen are underpaid in comparison with their contempories (ie the Police).

Roll on when you people find yourselves the target of a government Witch Hunt and discover that all the propoganda bull**** you read in the papers isnt true!

FYI I'm not a fireman/none of my friends or family are so I have no axe to grind.

Question

whats a firemans pension worth each year if you had to pay it yourself ??

To get full salary at what 50 ??

must be 3-4 k per year or more the way investments are at the mo

also do they pay for meals and accomadation like the forces ??

oh and do they get payed while eating and sleeping ??

not a bad package when you look at what the average fireman would be doing if he was not one ??? -- Factory worker 15k a year

Also when I beeped at the firemen it was in discust !!

These peeps know what the wages are when they join up so if their lifestyles cost more than the earnings why don't they get a different job? they earn twice what i get and do a lot less hours, i work with machines where i can get an arm sliced off, fall from the top of the plant and get crippled or killed - but do i go on strike for more money? no i just get on with it. If i wanted to earn more i'd go on a training course then get a better paid job.

as for the people honking their horns when they pass the firestations, maybe the horn is accompainied by 2 fingers and a few get back to work you to##ers phrases, the cameras don't show the drivers faces do they? and the firemen are too thick to realise not everyone supports them

They have lost their moral high ground and people are not impressed with their self righteous witterings.
Their contracts of employment should be re written with immediate effect. If they fail to sign on the dotted line, they should be fekked of, let them see what it's like to stand by a lathe 6 days a week for 15K.

So they have been offered 11% then, have they?

Well actually they have been offered 4% - OVER TWO YEARS, with the remaining 7% being subject to "modernisation".

Would you be happy with a 2% payrise, especially if your salary had lagged behind changes in your job description for many years?

As for the 7% part, well that has to happen with no additional funding, which basically means that there WILL be cutbacks. How would you feel when you local fire station closes down to keep fatty two jags happy???

Before the government even thinks about saying that they can't afford to pay firemen a decent wage, ask about the Dome, Wembley Stadium, the RailTrack bail-out, the British Energy bail-out, Lord Irvines pension or even the impending war with Iraq/everynonwesterncountry. They all are costing faaaar more!

It's deeply depressing that these berks are back for more self humiliation.

When will that idiot Gilchrist realise what a *** he is and resign?? First he calls off strikes so that ACAS can sort out the dispute - then when it comes to it he backs out and calls a strike He is clearly just making as much f**kin trouble as he can and is not fit to be in any position of authority

It really depresses me that loads of people here seem to post saying, "I've got a really ****ty job doing X, earning **** all per hour-therefore the firemen should get nothing......". If you have a ****ty long hours job then I FEEL FOR YOU TOO..We should all stick together rather than slagging each other off. I tell you one thing I feel I have more in common with a hard grafting fireman than with Tony Blair and his stinking corrupt politician friends.
They are trying to make us fight over whatever crumbs they decide throw to us. Wake up and smell the coffee people the firemen are just like us............

We are all sticking together. We all think the firemen are trying it on. And we all think that Gilchrist is a leftwing moron.

Your being manipulated Uncle Buck- you sound like you are following the path laid out for you in the media.

The way I look at it is Andy Gilchrist is being vilified in a similar way to Arthur Scargill- fair enough I don't personally agree with the weird dogma sported by these union men but neither do I like the dogma espoused by the politicians. These career Politico scumbags are what makes life worse for the real people of the world. They turn us against each other so that we don't realise what a ****ty deal we are getting.

The firemen do a really hard unpleasent job cutting folks like us out of our cars and saving our burning buildings. Good luck to the firemen- you deserve more money- let's face it we all deserve more money and better conditions whoever we are- What is so wrong about striving for that?

I don't think so. Iv'e had only 2 wage rises (neither over 2%) in the last 6 years however i've worked hard for promotions and changed job to get a wage i'm happy with. The firemen need to learn what it's like to work for a living instead of moaning and following that clown Gilchrist.

Marty and people like you - why does it matter what pay rises you have had over your working lives in relation to the firemen?????

Personally I have changed jobs over the past few years and had pay rises/lose totalling +/- 90%. Wherever workers are in the world I wish you all good luck in improving your working conditions/pay rates. Lets all hope for a better life for us all not based on pathetic envy and hatred.

I'd like to see us all driving scoobs ;-)

I see the old chesnut has come up, "They might cut you out of your car one day" .................... quite correct. BUT WTF has that got to do with their pay???????????? At the end of the day its one of the cosiest jobs in the country!!

I would help someone out of a burning car if I could, I DO NOT think that makes me worth £30,000 a year!!?? They KNOW what the pay is when they join - they are happy with it, as are the other 40 applicants FOR EACH and EVERY vacancy!!!

Its all to do with the public now finding out what little they actually do!!!!!!!!!!

Get back to work!!

Wrong again. I don't (never have) read the tabliod press. I am old enough to a) form my own opinions and b) remember the 'British Disease' when militant union leaders would bring this country to it's knees on a regular basis.

And don't go on about a socialist utopia where everyone is equal, bla bla bla... It will never happen. History shows what happens in socialist political systems - USSR, China, French Revolution etc.

Whose talking about us all being equal and a socialist utopia- that's all dogma of the bad old days- what I was talking about is the English disease of wanting to bring everything down to the lowest common denominator- let's face it who amongst us doesnt deserve pay rise/better hours working conditions? Good luck to all workers who want a better life- God knows you deserve one.

Personally I don't work or pay UK tax so I guess I can't really comment. I made all my money out of the obscene house price rises in the South East over the past few years :-)
