Best Pub:
Most pubs are packed with tourists, but the Moon Over Water on Leicester Square is reasonable.
Best bar:
Tiger Tiger - expensive but lively. 29 The Haymarket.
Best bar/restaurant:
Boheme Kitchen & Bar (not to be confused with Cafe Boheme next door)- 19 Old Compton St
More as and when I think of them...

Try the Dutch pub in Macclesfield Street (I think the name of the pub is De Heims) but Macclesfiled Street is very small (runs into Gerrard Street.Very good if you are going for a Chinese afterwards. Has great Dutch lagers on tap.
You could try the French House in Soho - full of very ary types, just off Old Comption Street. Trad boozer, empahsis on wine drinking.
The Atlantic Bar and Grill is very nice, very trendy.
Its one minute from Picadilly Circus.
The Lamb and Flag in Lambs Conduit Street is good (Youngs Pub).
It near Stringfellows.
There are some nice boozers in and just off Jerymn Street also.
You could try the nags Head in Covent Garden, more than 3 minuites, more like 5-10.
BTW - the best coffee in London is at the bar Italia in Frith Street.

Get Real!! It has to be 'the French Pub' loads of history attached to that place.
It's not actually called that (I think it's The Duke of something) but ask a local and they will tell you where it is.

You will find the French House-or London's "French Pub"-in Dean Street in the heart of Soho. The downstairs bar is full of atmosphere and has some rather eccentric customs. It serves beer by the half pint and this will cost you around 1.15 pounds. Mind you they do have some preety good beers including John Smith's, Beamish and Guiness. I should add,but you probably wont be surprised, that they have a marvellous selection of wines too and a good range of spirits.
As another bonus they do a good coffee and the air might just be thick with the smell of those wonderful but expensive French cigarettes,Gauloises, which are,I believe, a very trendy cigarette. Of course you can eat very well at the French House but the restaurant is upstairs. I never seem to have had time to sample the food but I am reliably informed it is very good.
The French House has something of an intimate, arty, atmosphere and attracts writers, media folks, and its fair share of London's eccentrics. It is certainly a pub full of atmosphere and was voted London's Pub of the Year, not so long ago.

THERE IS ONLY ONE PUB... the Lion Rouge (Red Lion).
Used to work in the offices over Tower Records and this was a popular haunt for us all. It's an old style pub get down to Jermyn Street and walk along. It's the second or third turning on the left I think.
Other than that all the usual places... Cheers is quite good if you want something more lively...

The Captain's Cabin....
go down the little bit of Jermyn St (between Haymarket and Lower Regent St).
It's 50 yards from there - on the small road leading off that bit of Jermyn St
did that make any sense whatsoever?
