Great fun - thanks everyone.

How come though when I have 200 health and 200 armour, one shot will kill me. Yet I'm blasting someone and they just won't die ?

What's the secret ?

Its true of all weapons, but especially the sniper rifle. Aim at the head

with the glowing armour the first head shot will remove it, the second will kill you.

I again provided some cannon fodder for the more experienced players

I play on a 56k modem, and managed to kill a few people a few times. I think if you are a good player, then it doesn't really matter about the speed of the line (but it does help). being a very good player on a fast line seems to make a big difference.

Never played assault before (haven't got that far through the stand alone game yet), so had no idea what was going on. I still have no idea how the blue team finished one of the maps in 40 seconds. I was still trying to find some weapons and something to defend, and never saw a single opponent!

Great fun, and I'll be back for more of the same next week.

I found that connecting to Lee's 0845 number made a big difference is frame rates, as opposed to my normal free ISP, so worth considering for future games.

I think you need version 436 (available from the UT website) to connect and play.

Top stuff last night, some particulary violent Death Matches!

I'll own up now and confess - Me (Hong Kong Phooey) and Russ (Alton - one of the guys from work) have played lots of assault and know the maps very well! Sitting next to each other on our 2Meg leased line also helps

Thanks Lee.

Cheers,

Chris.

Heh heh I strolled into one server last week where you needed a calendar to time the lag

thank god we got the initial lag problem sorted - turns out its a bug in win2k tcp/ip and the "fix" (fudge?) is to turn off the remote web admin when it is not required.

We peaked at 348k/sec last night

Definately a good laugh

I think I need a new PC. The graphics card in my laptop just couldn't keep up. I had all the detail down to low in 800x600, but when someone ran past I'd get one frame as they entered the room, one as they killed me, and one as they left leaving me to contemplate my own death again. It seems particularly bad in Morpheus, making it v difficult to aim when the screen is a little behind what I'm trying to aim at. In the end I hid in a corner with a sniper rifle as the only way to stop my score plummetting to big minus numbers - apologies to those poor buggers on the same team....

Assualt was v funny. By the time I'd worked out it was a train we'd attacked and defended and it was all over.

Cool

only came on very briefly around 7:30.

i was getting lag and i must admit to not liking deathmatch anymore so i didn't stay very long.

too much playing counter-strike these days

how many deathmatch maps are usually played before you move onto assault or whatever else UT has got that are more team orientated ? (as u can tell i dont play UT, last nite was the first time i've ever played it online!)

should be around next week with 2 other guys as well who are up for it.

This sounds like fun. What version of the game are you using? (IE. What game should I get to take part)?

Will my 56k modem be OK?

Cheers

Skiing next week so won't be able to make it. Will be back for the week after though. Are there maps (as in direction-maps) for the assault maps (as in UT-maps) so that we can try and work out where were going. As John S said it was a bit tricky when you only get 45 secs.......

Also skiing next week

Got a weeks self-catering somewhere in the French alps via Geneva for £129 - not too bad

Luckily I'm better at skiing than I am at UT

Looking forward to another session in a couple of weeks.
