I am in the market for a digital stills camera as the camcorders are too ££££`y. Can anyone with a fuji finepix 401 tell me if the blurb in the mag is right . It states 45 minutes of movie footage can be done with a 128mb smart card . This sounds an aweful lot and I`d like to sort it out .

Also bearing in mind that the budget is around £350 is there anything else out there I should consider . It`s a bl00dy mine field and would appreciate some help !!!

cheers in advance

K

Just got an s304 and pics are very good! If you take a look in motorsport section you can see some pics of the red kite rally yesterday. Bit of a vid in there as well if you want to take a look. Pics were taken at 2million (and resized by 50%) as still only got 16mb XD card. 128 should arrive this week

Bought a Canon IXUS V3 a few weeks ago. I put in alot of research into which was the best digi camera for my budget (£300 - £400), and this one always come up tops, without a bad word said about it. Having purchased the camera, i can confirm that my research payed off. Its tiny, simple to use, and has every feature you could possibly want on a digital camera. I've always had quite good quality SLR cameras, so have quite high expectations from picture quality etc, and i can honestly say that i can't fault it.

Quite a few people on here have got the same camera, so i'm sure they will back me up on how good this camera is.

Btw, the cheapest i could find it was on the net for £325. Have a look on WWW.DEALTIME.CO.UK.

Hope i've helped,

Steve

Yep. Bought my girlfriend a V3 for Chrimbo.

Very pleased with the quality but doesn't come with a case which is a bit bad for that price IMHO

£322 delivered from www.empire direct.co.uk

The place to look for digital camera reviews is DPReview.

If I have one piece of advice, it's to not try and measure image quality in pixels. The number of pixels only tells you how much storage space you'll need; it tells you nothing about the quality of the lens (which is the factor limiting sharpness and detail in most cases), or the colour fidelity, noise, chromatic aberration, distortion or other issues. Here is a mere 3MP image that I hope illustrates the point - it'll blow up to A4 no problem.

I wanted to buy the F401 for my wife for xmas, and ended up buying the Ixus V3.

The Fuji really appeared to go for the reds over everything else, had more noise and wasn't as sharp. Plus the canon just handled better.

I bought the ixus from dixons with a year's interest free...

I bought a Minolta S304 12 months ago - simply NOTHING to beat it at the price, period. So, with Scooby Snax above. I did months of research and it blows the competition out the water IMHO. I understand there is now a S404 with 4 Million pixels - BUT ask yourself if you REALLY NEED more than 3 Million Pixels as I doubt it!

Good Luck

Pete
