And is there any reason, other than apathy, why i shouldn't open one in favour of my Barclays current account, presently paying a whopping 0.10% on the current account, and a simply stunning 0.65% on the Higher (sic) Rate Savings Account.
Are there any catches to the Halifax account they "forget" to mention?

I've had one of these for a year or so. no hidden catches as far as I'm concerned. they handled all the transfer from my previous bank account, sorting out all direct debits etc. very efficient. I cant think of any reason not to switch.

I've had the Halifax 3% one for about a year now.The only rule is you have to have a net input of £1000 per month. There's no catch that i can see.Interest is also paid monthly.

I got one and then opened a "web saver" account, transfer your wages on line from your current account to the web saver, if you intend to use it for every day use you can request a cash card and get 3.4% the only draw back is its not a cheque account, you dont get a switch card (it only for withdrawls)and you cant set up direct debits, but i leave enough money in the current for those, if you have spare cash at the end of the month you can set the web saver up but choose not to have a cash card and you get 4.0%, I know it means transfering cash back and forth but it takes a couple of minutes and its well worth it!

A net monthly input of £1,000?
What, so you end up with £12,000 by the end of the year??
You mean "gross", i assume...?
BTW, haven't they only just increased the interest to 3% from 2%...?

I get my wages paid into my Halifax current account and because its over £1000 a month net,i qualify for the 3% rate.Obviously i dont leave it there, but that doesnt matter.I still get the higher rate.
Having said that i only got around 60 quid interest last year from it.I only leave the minimum amount in.

I am another who banks with Halifax and think they are wonderful! A lot better than Barclays who actually asked me to take my account elsewhere and were then suprised when I did!
The online banking with Halifax is easy to use as well, although not so sure I like being able to find out how large the overdraft is so easily!

Abbey National also do 3% on their current account (so long as you pay your wages into it).
I've just started a transfer of my account at Natwest to them.
Oh, and paying 4.5% on the mortgage too...and it's not discounted or anything.
