Suggestions Needed for songs to cover in my band
#1
I play bass in a 4 piece band. 2 Guitarists (one is the singer), bass and drums.
Im trying to think of some new tunes for us to play...
We play everything from Elvis through to Ozzy Osbourne...
I desperately want them to play some more modern stuff but I am having trouble thinking of any current 'Guitar' based bands worth covering (ie. something that isnt just 'Nu-Metal')
Thoughts so far include:
Chili Pepp's
NickelBack
.... errr....
HELP!

Already do some Stereophonics.
Dont know much about Rage against the machine - any suggestions on tracks to listen too?
Carlos Santana - err not my bag. The two guitarists dont need any further provocation for showing off!
Keep em coming folks!

Elvis Presley - Suspicious Minds from Live in Vegas..
..if you can it sing with as much energy as "The King" did during that performance then you're now my hero
ps I'm not a great Elvis fan cos I'm only 24 and dont drive an HGV

How about writing something new?
All you need is a few verses & a chorus. Put a few chords against it. And build it from there.
Although covers are an OK way to improve timing etc...
But If you really want to do covers, I would agree that the stereophonics are quite easy to do. Mainly their 1st LP, that was just power chords A lot of the american guitar (indie) type music is fairly straight forward too

Some suggestions that are a little bit off the beaten track ...
Thin Lizzy -- Don't Believe a Word / Boys Are Back in Town
Buzzcocks -- I Don't Mind / What Do I Get?
Only Ones -- Flaming Torch
Ash -- Goldfinger
Status Quo -- Roll Over Lay Down
Rezillos -- Good Sculptures (My Baby Does)
BeBop Deluxe -- Maid in Heaven
Television -- Friction

What sort of band is it,do you want to become a serious band or just do local gigs doing cover versions. If the latter i'm sure some Oasis would go down well,or how about Aerosmith.

Agree with fatherpeirre... Metallica covers are always a good idea. Need a decent lead guitarist though. Or you could always play some of the Garage Days stuff Alernatively.. there's Misfits/Danzig... 'Mother' is a cool song to cover if your singer call do a good Elvis (and you only need about 3 chords)

Thanks for the suggestions all....
The band members are quite capable of dealing with whatever you throw at them...
A few questions have risen about our ability to play...
Lead guitarist has been playing 30 years and is awesome...
Singer / guitarist can handle most things you throw at him...
Drummer used to play with Kate Bush (amongst others)
I have spanked my bass for 15 years ...
We have over £25k's worth of kit and do this as 'spare time fun'...
I just want the guys to play some more modern stuff instead of the usual 50's, 60's, 70's stuff...
We play some Stereophonics, Thin Lizzy, you name it - we play it. Im looking for tunes that people will want to dance to and that they recognize... Nothing too 'alternative'...
Thanks for the suggestions all - some great tunes in there!
Keep em coming...

What about Manic Street Preachers, Radiohead, Paul Weller & Zero7
Not a massive fan of guitar based music however I really like all of the above, so they must be good!

A bit of Metallica if you think you're up to it.
Their tunes always go down well but sound awful if even one of the band aren't quite up to it.
