Hope someone can shed some light.

After checking out the Macromedia web site I find Dreamweaver Ultra Dev and it seems its for writing database driven web sites. I have messed about with Dreamweaver, flash and fireworks but Ultra Dev seems something extra.

So, how easy is it to get into, and does it come with the application you write the database with or do I need Access 2000??

How do I test what I have done on my machine, do I need a server??

What features do I need on my dialup account to run a database driven web site??

Oh and how cheap is Ultra Dev?? I only want it for personal usage.

thanks for any info guys

S

Hello

UltraDev helps you write code to connect to a database.

I've used it with ASP to connect to a database (Access and SQL Server).

In order to run the web pages that it creates you need a web server that will support ASP (Microsoft's IIS for example). "Free" web space from your dial up ISP does not normally allow you to use a database or ASP.

UltraDev is expensive (around $300) -- you can download a trial version and then use it for 30 days.

Ultradev is excellent if you are a designer who needs to produce something "programmey" but are not a programmer and don't want to be.

In order to use it you need a true webserver (ie you can't just double click created .htm files) but but but you can use Personal WebServer if you don't have a proper server to hand.

It works with ASP/Coldfusion/JSP.

Freeby hosting packages don't usually provide what you need to use databases.
If you want a webhost, I can host your site using ASP or Coldfusion. I would recommend ASP/Access if you are creating at home since Coldfusion is pricey.

I don't use it personally - I use dreamweaver for design and then hand-code in the necessaries. I think this is the norm..most developers don't like to be constrained by an application.
