Question

Lees thread made me think! (it does happen sometimes!)

Seems to be a bit of interest in PCs round abouts here.

I used to travel to Reading every 2 months or so for a day of network gaming. We used a school room, for about 16 people. Just got a quick network up and running, everyone brought their own kit, and usually a few games were played

stuff like
starcraft
age of empires
unreal
UT
quake 2 and 3
toca 1 and 2
etc etc

anyway, anyone have an idea of a venue that could be used in suffolk/essex/norfolk?
and would anyone be interested?
I know of probably 10 people who would be!

If amount of kit was a factor we'd have it round mine

If a networked up luxury flat was required then Anders' place it is !

But the real problem is transportation of kit. The sort of machine you need for gameplay means laptops arent suited and people can't be bothered to lug a home machine/monitor around.

Hence the joys of the 'net. After Jan I'll be able to run pretty much anything off of one of my servers

Thumbs up

The downside of Internet gaming is the loss of the ability to heckle and abuse the person you just wiped out or fragged. We often play UT across our LAN or out onto the Internet at the office and the banter is all part of the fun.

Anyone got one of these puppies (32 quid from Dabs)?

Its not bad really, once youve shifted a few times its simple.

Ive got a gaming machine and an internet one. the gaming one just has the essentials, so no modem cables etc etc

just monitor
good mouse
good keyboard
****ing fast processor, which will overclock for an extra couple of fps!
****ing fast diskdrive
crap CD rom soon to be upgraded
fast memory but not enough (you can never have enough!)
geforce 2 heavily overclocked
no nasty programs that clog the registry and load gazillions of DLLs to waste resources

I agree about the heckling, thats what actually made the "net days" that we used to have.

Im still looking for a venue. If I find one, anyone intersted?
