Im seriously looking into getting a CPL soon and was wanting to pick anyones brains who already holds one. Im looking to do the whole frozen ATPL route with a college and Im looking to see who are the best and how the aviation industry is recruiting.

Hope someone can help.

Regards

Richie

Cool

Just backing up what Bill said, I looked into getting my PPL a few years ago. I was thinking of doing it in Fort Lauderdale, it was a 2 month intensive type training academy, from memory it was 10K dollars or pounds(can't remember now) which included accomodation etc. The bonus was that you learn to fly in nice weather, excellent visibility, warm, in much nicer conditions than ****ty England. Although at least in England you'd learn to fly in the sort of conditions you will later be flying in!!
They also did a conversion course to Helicopters which wasn't a lot more as most of the groundwork and principles were the same! I wish I'd done it now, it's probably one of my biggest regrets!!

Agree on US/UK comparison. I'm sure it was pound for Dollar cost for 4/5 weeks somewhere in Florida area including accom/food/flights etc. I looked at this 2/3 years ago. Wife wouldn't let me as she thought it too dangerous. I saw an advert some time ago in private eye. I'm sure its around 100 PH in the UK and you need minimum of 40hrs aloft plus classes, don't quote me though as it was some time ago but I remember 5-6KUKP being the minimum investment to get it.

Cool

Richie,

I have just got back from holiday in florida, I spent 2 weeks with my brother who had just completed a re-certification of his PPL and hung out with a dozen other brits doing various training out there. The price is much cheaper and you get lovely weather so you can fly every day.

If you want I can find out the details of the flight school, it was Orlando Flight Training in Kissimmee Orlando, and everything is certified to UK standards.

Give me a shout if you want the details.

Stuart
