What car is this for? I ask as a friend used to use a solar powered conditioner to keep his TVR battery charged - it didn't do a very good job.
Do you have a garage with mains supply? If you do, I'd suggest you're much better off with a mains powered conditioner. I use one (IIRC, the 'Draper' one from Halfords, £20) to keep my Caterham battery charged. Does a good job.
You can leave it connected to the battery permanently and on charge, it charges the battery with a very low current. All the same, I check the car regularly to be safe.
