1) Whats the best hotel in the centre of Madrid? Going over for my birthday in January and want something special for me and my girlfriend

Go to Seville.......
Much more "cosy" for a special weekend, and the people are a lot more friendly IMHO
Flight costs about the same, and most other stuff is cheaper..... hotel/food/souveneirs....etc...
Unless you have already booked the flight etc....
In which case try www.bestwestern.com for the cheapest hotels of a "good" standard..... we stayed at the Cortezo last time, very posh and not too expensive (by northern european standards).
If you do go to Seville try http://www.hotelbecquer.com/index.html very good service, very upmarket, reasonable price, central location, excellent breakfast, all round brilliant hotel......
