You will need as Bajie says a tri-band phone. Most phones bought in europe are dual band which is GSM900 and GSM1800. North America works on GSM 1900 so you will need a phone that will work on all 3 frequencies. I've just ahd a quick look at the Orange Web Site and the following are listed as Tri Band phones

Ericson T68
Motorola V66
Nokia 6310
Nokia 7210
Panasonic GD87
SOny Ericson T200
Sony Ericson T68i

Hope this is useful

Shane

Edited coz I cant spell

I think the phones without sim cards are using the American D-Amps system.
Nearly everywhere else is on GSM or variants thereof.
The mobile networks over there are slowly changing to GSM/GPRS so it is possible to get a tri-band working phone.
Make sure you check your roaming agreement very carefully if you use your mobile in the States. You would not believe how many times your phone can handover to another operator. And each handover is charged ...

Also make sure the phone you get is not Sim locked to any Service Provider.

Make sure its tri-band.
You need GSM900 [vodafone/cellnet] or GSM1800 [T-Mobil/Orange] compatibility.

I lived in the US a couple of years ago. The mobile I had over there did not use a SIM card, the dealer set up the phone and registered it when I bought it. I could not use the phone here when I moved back.

I do not know if you can buy phones in the US that will work over here, and can only suggest you do your research before buying.

Good Luck.

James.

I'm not sure US phones have SIM cards that you can change over.
