My boyfriend had an ex police car. High mileage but really good runner. Use your judgement is all I can say. If you want it, have it! Don't bother with an RAC/AA inspection as they are a complete waste of time. If you can, get a mechanic to give it a once over. Only advice I have
Oh yeah, no police on log book but had all original puchase docs with Notts police as buyers etc. That's how we found out it was an ex cop car!!

i had an ex busy car cavalier sri and there was nothing on the log book, but remenber an ex patrol car will have holes in the roof, lots of extra wiring, high milage and basic standard car, my sri didnt have a sunroof which is standard nor did it have eletric windows. and there really bad for resale as once you see the resprayed white car you almost imediatly know what they are

I thought that these days the Police went to great lengths to eusure thay didn't drill holes all over the place.
Kent have for some time had a policy of buying cars in matellic silver as the trade in value is greater, and I believe other forces are doing the same now.
The police I suspect are these days just as worried about depreciation as the rest of us!

The wife had an ex CID car once. The previous owners name was on the logbook and apart from dubious mileage (40k), the only problem we had was old bill stopping to look at a modded car with what must have been a recognizable registration number sequence.
Never a tug though!

Tactical pursuit and containment.
I suppose at least if you buy a second hand police car, you'll be satisifed in knowing it will probably be free from rust. Mainly because none of the body panels will be the original ones.
Also, take this for example.... (to be honest, its a compliment to the Ford Transit diesel engine) .... we had a M reg transit meat van... and by the time we "upgraded" it, it had done over 100,000 miles, and had never missed a beat.
Nothing special? Well, bear in mind it was run 24/7, and literally had its knackers thrashed off it daily in every gear. I think that's quite good.
