Anyone been to Malta In December?

I went there in November a few years back, and NOWHERE was open. It gets dark at 6pm, and if you don't live by the one party town (small one at that) there is sod all to do. I found it to be a very dirty place, with whole families living in the doorways of toilets (maltese public toilets are an experience. There is no loo roll, you have to pay the woman on the doorstep (wheree she is watching her tv) for a few sheets) as their business. To top the lot off, me and my sister had violent food poisoning for 10 days from contaminated water (stupidly didn't think about not having ice cubes in restaurants), don't srink the water. The free hospital in Mdina does have very nice staff though.
There are some nice places, Paradise Bay is a great beach for snorkelling and the city dungeons are very cool and gory (), but you could fit it all in a week. I'm afraid for me these cons outweigh the pros.

While I have never been there in winter, I have been a few times in the summer to see a mate who lives there.
I certainly do not find it dirty, although people do tend to sit in their doorways though for some reason. I find it a great place for families and the Maltese are the one nation that I believe truely love England and the English.
It will be quiet, and about 15-17 degreees in temp.
Where about are you thinking of staying?

GarnetFox, thanks for the feedback...sounds like you had the holiday from hell? ....
davyboy, I wasnt really sure to be honest, but I think I'll pass on it as the Canaries are a bit warmer than that and by the sound of it a bit livlier as well
I was just looking to go away over Christmas for 14 days to somewhere nice and hot
Thanks Nath

I went to Malta in September 2000 for work
I thought the St Julians area was nice and was lively at night (although obviously was in season).
We spent one day driving round Malta and away from some of the towns, there was some fly tipping and stuff. Probably no worse than the UK though.

Not been there in December but was there in August, nice place, very friendly people, they all speak english, not dirty at all but they have a problem as to where they dump all the waste from the tourists, worst dump is on the road from St Julians to buggiba.
I stayed in St Julians and loved it.
