Err if i ask for Vodka, dont serve me it, as i drink it till i fall over, its used to be after about 10- 15 pints of guinness, then brother in law would up the anti and go onto spirits.

I am then either violently ill (generally the case) or sometimes just plain violent (in my younger days).

Mr Askew, best tip ever,
8) Dont drink more than you can take. Do not risk alcohol poisoning. ( a friend lost his life after necking a pint of vodka for a bet)
I have seen my brother in law and his friend race a bottle of vodka each after 10's of pints, on several ocassions, they wont listen, and then watch them fall over, completely out of it. To wake up an hour later and start drinking why!

You try explaining, having had one friend die of choking on his own vomit, but they just wont listen

Hangover is dehydration (sp?! ) so lots of water - I always have two pints before bed

Pasta or something before you go out is a good one...oh, and never take a camera - it's enough to make you stop drinking forever

(Oh, and *never* mix tequila with anything....at all.... )

with Christmas on the way, anyone got any top tips for before and after a heavy night?

I think I read somewhere that you should have some lucozade after a night out before you hit the sack.

cheers,

greg

I recently got badly slaughtered with Mr Wallis. Thing that made the next day a whole lot better was the full english at about 2.30am.

That and about 2 pints of milk in the morning seemed to help a great deal.

I'll be out on the Broad Street **** up this weekend (see Midlands forum).

When I get back to the hotel and some ungodly hour, I'll be drinking at least a litre of Lucozade Sport to avoid being horribly dehydrated in the morning.

About an hour before drinking try and eat about 5 slices of bread and butter. Works for me.

As a reformed alcohol dependant I have many tips available:

1) Dont mix booze - keep to one brand of lager or bitter rather than say doing 5 pints of Stella then a few John Smiths then back on the stella. That said spirits on top of pints is OK as long as they're not mixed.

2) The fizzier the alcohol the quicker and harder the effect - the bubbles get alcohol into the blood stream quicker. Hence why champers gets peeps trollied quicker than house white wine. Dont go overboard on the fizzy stuff.

3) For every 5 pints of medium to high strength beer consumed, consume one pint of mineral water with a teaspoon of salt dissolved in it when you get home. However if consuming more than 20pints of lager do not consume more than 3 pints of water cos it will make you really bad.

4) Do not make yourself sick! DO NOT induce vomitting especially if you have vomitted most of what you've drunk.

5) Avoid high doses of caffeine the following day, in the same way avoid REDBULL type drinks in high quantity.

6) If you're going out on a big sesh (25 pints) then consume a meal approx 2 hours before you go out. Pasta/Bread is ideal.

7) If you dont want to get too shedded too early but still want to be seen consuming vast pintage then alternate lager then shandy. (dont get found out)

8) Dont drink more than you can take. Do not risk alcohol poisoning. ( a friend lost his life after necking a pint of vodka for a bet)

9) Have a Special brew or a large JD before you go out to get the beer buzz without having to play catch up.

10) Dont neck your 1st pint. It'll set the scene for an unpleasant night.

Hope this helps..

Greg

My usual, although nowhere near as frequent these days, pre session build up used to be a couple of slices of toast and a pint of milk. Mid session, i would always try to get something to eat, preferably a fillet steak. End of session, always used to buy a few bottles of lucozade. Drink as many before going to bed, together with a pint or 2 of water, then in the morning, drink whats left!

Dont ask me how this came about, just developed, although now i dont do it too much, so forget and get horibly hammered.

Whats really wierd is if i get so plastered (not for a long time) and cant stomach any of above, then i have to buy some wine gums (sad i know) or ice cream, and within an hour i am usually fine.

Bizarre i know

2-3 pints of water before bed always sorts me out - murder to try and down them all when your completely lashed up, but worth it.

Either that or a gram of speed

6) If you're going out on a big sesh (25 pints)
I remember now why I stopped drinking beer. Why would you want to put in excess of three gallons of liquid into your body (that's the contents of the fuel tank on a very small car )? It all has to come out you know, and you pee about half a pint at each 'sesh', so that's 50 visits to the karzi.

A couple of pints of water before bed is a good idea, but the best advice i've seen above is don't neck your first pint!!! This is a sure way to get in a state IMHO (always kills me! ) Slowly savour your first pint as slip into the groove!

Chris, you think you'll make it back to the hotel?

You need
  • Pint Milk
  • Cheese n pickle sandwich
  • Pint water

Drink milk before going, then leave the rest on the bed side table.

Slow walk home the scenic route for me. Usually have a coffe down at Esso. By the time i get home, i'e half way to being sober. A good swig of water is a must before my head hits the pillow, leaving plenty of water for the morning. I can't remember the last time i had a hangover.
Sh@gging the bird usually makes for a good nights sleep too

All very good tips... I had a wasted Saturday this week due to on Friday night I:

Went out at 5 on an empty stomach
Necked my first lager (on a bender I normally drink Guiness)
Necked the next 5 lagers
necked the next 5 double vodka and cokes.
Drank some red liquid (apparantly)
necked a zambuka (apparantly)

Bought a prawn sandwich a packet of crisps and a diet coke...

went to bed at 11. Was very ill and had to get a train home at 8am.

Would normally drink a few pints of water during the evening, two pints when I got home, not go out on an empty stomach, and so on.

Alkazeza XS are great for the hang over though... so is a packet or two of hula hoops and a berocca.

Berocca are great 1000 times the recommended daily average dose of most vitamins down in one. Makes your p1ss turn orange though!!!

David,

when you don't normally drink more than a few pints per WEEK, that was a session. Besides, some of us were up in the morning to work on YOUR car. I hope you enjoyed you lie-in!

The teeth brushing idea does seem to work, definitely gets rid of the 'beer monster shat in my mouth' feeling!
Don't drink too slowly, or you get a hangover before going to bed without being drunk
Clubbing is always a good bet to metabolise some of the alcohol before you go to bed, as is walking home, falling in hedges etc.

Chris, you think you'll make it back to the hotel?
I've never not made it home. Sometimes the route is a little circular, but I get there in the end

Last big bender I did was a mate's stag do. 10 pints up when we left the 2nd pub around 5pm.

Ended up in a club *ahem, cough*. Vodka shots were 50p each and tray's of the stuff kept appearing on our table. Next day, one of the guys finds a Switch receipt for £78

Had 2 bottles of Lucozade Sport when I got in that night (well morning). Head was fine the next day, shame about my stomach...
