Cool

£5.37, but then I'm hardly the most generous person on the planet.

Red face

Actually, you're right. It'd probably be the best part of a grand for me, too.

<note to self> Must try and save money by not eating quite so many mince pies this year.

Mince pies are the best bit about xmas if you ask me. Love the puff pastry ones with a generous portion of extra thick cream

Did mine in late September, so you're right - cancelling it now wouldn't affect me.

Home made mince pies are the best.

Maybe save £200?

Well, we did have good reason - we wanted to get the presents bought and delivered before we moved to Scotland, otherwise the postage would have been daft.

Having said that, when I said "I did mine" that wasn't technically accurate. Luckily, my wife enjoys doing the christmas shopping and is very good at it.

Hate shopping...not too keen on Christmas, per se and if it was cancelled it wouldnt bother me that much... ...as long as we still got the days off, of course.

I'd save loads, too!

Ahh, it's all becoming clear I went to Bluewater but cunningly fed the husband several pints before we entered any shops! Lasted 2 hours before he claimed he was sobering up and could we go home now?!

About £500 - dont have to buy too many pressies, but then the nights out get fairly expensive.

On the other hand, it is a chance to get pressies that you wouldnt normally afford, so you save money, such as the drill and copy of GTA:Vice City I am getting.

Unhappy

Last year it cost me over £2K.
That's about £500 of food and drink (partys don't come cheap) and the rest of presents for family and friends.
I am told I am generous, some say stupid!!
This year hasn't been so prosperous for my industry, so I am going to have to cut back a bit.
Most likely I will still end up £1K out of pocket.

No. No, it's not.

Why do we need a particular day set aside to buy people things? (Let's face it, the true meaning of Christmas is lost now.)

Depends if you can get down to what the real meaning of "Christmas" is ...

Its not that expensive to be kind to your fellow man is it?

SheepSplitter - yeah, why not?

Bajie - that's my point. Why set aside one day a year to be nice and kind to people - why can't this be done throughout the rest of the year? Even the act of giving gifts - in my immediate environment, if one of us needs something or is in difficulty, the whole lot of us rally round and sort it, whatever it is. We don't sit there and say "Sorry love - got to wait till end of December before I can help you with that"... It's ridiculous.

You're absolutely right. I have no idea why spending a day celebrating the birth of a fantasy character who didn't actually exist as part of a religion based purely on heresay and the ludicrous rantings of a few apostles and scribes in a book based entirely on fiction and loose circumstantial evidence, should cost quite so much.
