I dunno about the yamaha one but if i was getting one for myself i'd go for just the basic midi drum pad and a seperate drum synth. It would allow the pad to be plugged into a synths/PCs should he want to upgrade.

Afraid I can't give any recommendations on good kit (not used midi stuff for a few years now) but have a look in some of the digital music mags.

Cool

Hi,

I have a Roland TD-6 drum kit, which is an amazing bit of kit but with a price-tag to match! -

There's nothing wrong with the drum-pad type kits, but they are very limited in how you can use them. I'd be inclined to scan the For Sale ads in,e.g. Rhythm magazine and have a look at some of the full kits. Whatever way you choose rhythm is cool.

Obviously it depends on what sort of use you're talking about. If it's just to mess about with then the kit you've shown is fine. Having said that, real acoustic drum kits lose value quicker than a fugly (joking!!) so possibly look for a small kit with cymbals included (very important as this is were the real money is!).

that kit looks the dog's furry bit's but a little OTT for my needs.

It's really only a toy for a man who can't stop tapping to and piece of music on TV

Cheers
Craig.

Cool

Cheers m8 - it is a lot of fun.

If you haven't already, have a look at your local 'pro' music shop as next year's stuff will be on the shelves soon and dealers will want to get rid of this year's stock asap (much the same as cars really).
