Question

We have some software which I'm told is keyed to the MAc address of the network card.. The card has gone up the spout and so I need to be able to put another in and set the MAC address the same as the other one so the sw will work.. How do I do this? what network cards allow you to change this MAC address?

Mods, can you leave this here for a while please to get the max eyeballs...

cheers guys and gals..

You need to un-install and re-install the software mate. You using Auto CAD per chance?

MAC addresses are specific to the Network Card & in theory, no two MAC addresses will ever be the same in the world *. They are not changeable but installed at time of manufacture.

* There is a chance that some dodgy manufacturer has got one MAC address & cloned it loads of times but that would be very interesting on a network

Some boards and onboard nics allow you to configure the MAC address. I have an MSI board which allows me to set it in the BIOS

Cheers,

A.
