Ray, If you go to SAP for your training then it cost £16,000 for each module course which lasts 5 weeks with an exam at the end.
There are loads of modules that all interect with each other so it is best to specialise in one module.
Then you will have to work in a permanent role for a couple of years to get some experience and then you will be ready to go contracting.
the market of very slack at the moment so expect to wait until 2004 until the good times return. Working in a permanent role you can expect to get around £400 - £600 per day in the current climate.

You can train yourself via online methodsand books but without any experience or a credited certificate you will struggle to find anywhere that will want you.
As I said the market is dead with very few projects on the go so there are loads of consultants kicking around for the few positions.
