When we spent new year in cape town, we had new years eve at Kirstenbosch (Botanical Gardens). Had an open air concert starting at 10.00pm, with fireworks at 12.00.
Good venue if you are into that. Me and the misses are past the loud party's were you cant here yourself think let alone hear anyone speak. We really enjoyed it. Busy place though.
Don't forget the "castle" and some bottles of "JC le Roux" !!!
PS - Lots of tips if you don't know what to see !!

Have you tried 'The Commodore'?
It's the old jail down in the harbour and is part of the same chain thar runs The Michaelangelo in Joburg. Don't remember the exact costs because work paid but it wasn't an arm and a leg - and the most fantastic views of Table Mountain from the rooms (make sure you're on the right side, though)
Have a look
Cheers
