Got a few of these,
Leatherman Crunch- worth having as the mole grip type pliers are very good.I use this the most as i mess about with RC cars so the moles come in handy.
Leatherman Wave - loads of attachments, but with the needlenose pliers. With the add on attachments i think this would be the best bet.
Gerber Urban legend - good pliers (sprung handles)with tungsten cutting blades and good scissors ( better scissors than wave), good for fishing.
It depends what you will use it for, I also have some of the smaller keyring type leathermans/serbertools, They all get used at some point or another-I have a fetish for stainless steel.
Hope this helps,
mike.

Have a look here http://www.international-tool.co.uk then have a look at the MULTI-TOOLS section on the left.
I bought one of these for about 20 quid. Lifetime guarantee (apparantly, never had to use it). Does the same as a leatherman for about 1/3 - 1/4 of the cost

Gerber produce the best multi-tool, far better than Leatherman et al - IMHO of course
Gerber have a foolproof locking mech for the tools so you cannot remove a digit, the blades are made of better materials and the 'saw' hasd a vast range of interchangeable blades.

I've got a leatherman 'SuperTool' with the extra ratchet set. Absolutely superb. Quality product that hasn't let me down in two years of hard use. Well worth the investment (Thanks Wifey!).

Leatherman every time i have tried cheaper alternatives but they dont last
Gerber have the advantage of the replacable blades
Costco do leatherman wave's for about 60 quid
ps
I Also carry a swiss army knife as leathermans are a bit bulky for the pocket

Gerbers are good 'cos you can use the pliers 'in reverse' to pry things open. I have the 600 version with the interchangeable screwdriver bits which is pretty good. Colleague of mine who collects penknives etc. rates the leatherman sideclip. Gerber have a good website by the way. Hope that helps!

Leatherman sideclip for about 3 yrs,
still as good as the day i bought it!!!
Highly recommended, just ask if you can hold one, you'll be convinced!!
remember,
you buy cheap, you buy twice!!!

I have a Gerber mutlitool, dunno which one though, has one handed operation which is handy if you're having to hold something whilst taking the pliers out () I find my Victorinox Cybertool more useful though. Just wish those stupid springs in things like the scissors and pliers would last more than 8 months

Well I used a Leatherman for a couple of years, but have had a Gerber for 2.5 years now and its fekkin ace. I do alot of sound system and lighting work and when you the nominated truss monkey, they are an essential tool to have 15 metres up in the air !!!
Horses for courses tho, people love Gerbers and others love Leathermans. They are the only two worth bothering with IMHO. Unless you need to get stones out of horses hoofs............

Another vote here for the Leatherman Wave. I use it for something virtually every day. 2 good (locking) knife blades, some sturdy scissors, various screwdrivers and a pair of versatile pliers that will even cut through barbed wire no problem. Oh and nice rounded handles so you don't hurt your hands.
