Cool

Is a violin.......which is great, but, it isn't exactly playable........

It is missing

Strings
One peg
Chin rest
Bridge
Bottom bit (can't remember what it is ) No funny comments thanks

Anyhow, I fear it may have a tiny case of woodworm

Does anyone know of good violin restorers who would be willing to look at it and assess whether it would be worth me bothering to restore?
My nan knows of a good place, but they are a bit pricey - they restored my current one and a fantastic job they did too. But alas, it is only a 3/4 and I need a full size violin.

I fear that this one may be a 3/4, but won't know for sure till I measure it up against my current violin.

I may just use the spare bits I have (bridge and strings) in order to get it to an accessory standadrd and have it on display. The wood is a lovely deep red, I do like it.

Any suggestions/recommendations?

Just to continue the helpful replies so far.

sounds to me like you've blagged a case - go back for the Violin

Don't know any Violin manufacturers (which would be a better start point for you !)

The best in the business is Steve Smith, who has a workshop in Cornwall Road, London SE1. Dunno what it is called, but a STFW should sort all the details. Used to have 'em but lost (his wife is a friend of my wife's but obviously not been in touch for a while ).

I'll sell you some string - it wont work but it'll

sound better than the racket those things make normally.

not helpful I know - but is it really worth restoring.

I say - BURN (1/2 hour warmth is better than none)

LOL@you lot

Cheers Puff for the best reply so far

If the woodworm and slight damage is repairable then I am prepared to restore it in order to play again.
My other violin is too small for me and is too nice to sell on. It was bought for me by my nan for £75 when I was 11 and has been valued at over £700 now - that is even with me playing it LOL

If you're anywhere near Newark, my brother does violin repairs. Sounds more like a rebuild job though. Is it worth repairing?

Wink

Is it worth repairing?
Depends on the damage the woodworm have done and whether the two non-woodworm damaged bits are repairable.

If not then I shall just stick on the relevant bits to make it look like a working violin and use it for display

I think it is a full size one as the neck is longer than my 3/4 so if it is repairable I may be able to start fiddling again

NAF you feicing muppet, get outta here and back in the muppet forum
