Quick question for you.
Is it safe to assume that movign up the naim range will be a move I want to make even without hearign the difference?
in short, have sold two 180 power amps running actively, and am looking to buy 2 135 mono blocks power amps and run passively again.
Changeover will cost me £600.
It isnt easy to make the listen to the change so am wondering if anyone who might know can comment on whether I should just go for it or not and assume I will appreciate the difference.

How come you can't just go along to someone's demo room and hear the setups?
I'm running Nac72/Nap180/HiCap plus Linn Ikemi/AE1 speakers BTW, and *did* notice when the HiCap was added, but these things are always subjective. Your ear wants to justify the expenditure

I agree. WTF would you buy a £600 set of amps without even hearing the things to make sure that a) you like them and b) you can notice the difference between them and your current set-up.
TBH, if you're buying that sort of kit, you should really be arranging a home demo before splashing out.

ok
have
cdx
82
supercap
hicap
snaxo
180
180
running credos
problem is, place buying the 135s from is a small outlet witha second hand deal going.
Could ask to borrow them, but not that easy.
Cant go to a shop as this stuff isnt for sale anymore.
cant borrow something with intention of buying from somewhere else.
solution?

Yes you will ABSOLUTY DEFINATLY hear a positive difference.
There will be bags more detail more depth to the sound and a much firmer bass retaining all the usual Naim PraT.
There is a body of opinion that says the 180 isn’t much better than a 140 certainly smaller that the difference between a 180 and a 250. Clearly though the 135’s will be better again.
In my opinion 135’s are ideal for high (-ish) volumes in large (-ish) rooms, and despite the fact that you have a superb system, I’m not too sure that the credos would best maximise their potential, unless theses are to go soon.
Would you not be better off buying a second hand CDII?
Or a power supply for the CDX?
Or a second hand pair of SBLs?
Or many more CDs!!
I suspect that any of these would give you a better overall improvement in the sound.
I endorse Dave TS’s view and get to Grahams or somewhere and see what they sound like, and I bet they tell you buy a power supply for the CDX.
Oh and Mark O the amps retail for £1910 EACH, so there’s lots of tax credits required to buy these.

oh the irony, my room is tiny!!!!
the 135s i was looking at were the old style, didnt think to check, but can still find new style.
Cant have an active 6 pack as speakers are two way.
to be homest I dont like sbls. Not keen on the sound at all, whereas I love the sound of credos, and know there is much more to come from them. Next speakers will be NBLs but I will move to a larger house before that happens.
Will be getting rid of a rega planar 3 soon if anyone wants, to make room for the cdx ps which I thought would be a good move.
I had also considered active 250s, but came to the conclusion that if I am going to jump, I might as well go for the top now.
Will be a long time before I can afford 2 more 135s with nothing to trade in for them. But cant imagine running passive again in the meantime is going to be disappointing by comparison.
Either way, both my 180s have been sold via ebay for decent prices, so the rest of the system will be wasted unless I buy some power amps, or sell the lot which is never going to happen.
So 2 135s or 2 250s,for now, that is the upgrade I have to consider.
