"Sniper"... What ransom is he /she demanding???

Think hes just doing it for ****s and giggles.
You have to admire him for the way he's avoiding the authorities if nothing else.
What was it 20 minutes after the shot was fired and the city was hut down totally and he STILL got away.
Even if his actions are sick hes deffo good at what hes does.
astraboy.

sounds like the perfect terorist activity to me. One or two lone people scaring the **** out of a state. I think there is more to this than is being said. Why around Washington? Why so indescriminate a target group. One of the reasons this person/persons are not being caught is because there is no pattern, everyone is a target. To me that makes this very much a terorist activity.

John, my thoughts exactly, too well organised to be a redneck with a hunting rifle, my bets are on the Bin Laden Massive
It is as effective as a terror weapon than September the 11th, more sustained and personal. Who says its one person, whos to say it wont move to another state ?
My thoughts go out to the citizens of Washington, must be a really hard thing to deal with, this (these) sickos made it plain that even kids arent safe, I have 3 little lads (6,5 and 3) and if it started here I would simply p*ss off for a few weeks, or at least send the wife to relatives out of the way.

Don't agree with the terrorist theory, too small scale for them, not their style, they like immediate impact and mass killing in one hit.
This is more likely someone who has flipped after having serious issues with the authorities of some kind and wants to give them the biggest headache they can, eg ex military (with the preparation/planning that is being used to avoid detection and the expertise execution of each 'hit' this is my bet).
I just hope they get hold of the maniac asap and stick him in the chair. There has been no motive given for these attrocities and all the vicitms have been innocent civilians IIRC. Hope no more people get hit, but I fear my wishes wont come to fruition for a few weeks yet

Can't be long before they catch him though
I reckon the death toll will be in the mid-high twenties before they catch up with him/her/them.

The Police wont catch him at all - much more likely to be a member of the public with a gun who will shoot him / her - I wouldn't like to own a white van in the area at the moment

Its almost as though the sniper is playing with the police. This will be the thing that causes them to get caught. That and trying to get the ransom. I think the police are playing along, just to try and get them to make a mistake.
If it were a terrorist, all they could do is hire a car and drive to another state and start up all over again. They'd never catch them then unless they roadblocked an entire state.

He has to be lucky every time he kills somebody, the police only have to be lucky once.
With the type of firearm he's using he'll be able to shoot accurately from up to 200 yards from the target, and even with the public being vigilant, it's unlikely that many people will even realise somebody's been shot in the first 20-30 seconds afterwards, let alone exactly where the shot came from. 30 seconds is plenty for the guy to wander off nonchalantly before the alarm is raised.
And all this assumes that there's only one guy doing it.
TBH, I can't see the police making much headway in the near future. The biggest hope of catching him that they have is that with the tarot cards and phone calls, he clearly wants to assert his authority over the authorities, and also wants some sort of notiority. I imagine if/when he gets caught, it'll probably be on his terms.
If he stopped now, he'd probably never be caught. But I suspect the reasoning behind the kills will never be known, as I'm certain the story will end with the usual "before turning the gun on himself" epilogue.

Imagine if they stopped all the white vans over here! The courier business would grind to a halt.

Disagree totally its terrorist activity, too small three people, one shooter, driver and target locater.
These people seem like professionals, ex-something...crazy...nutters..
If it was terrorist activity someone would of owned up to it by now for the public exposure that it has been gaining.

I honestly reckon it's a guy who fancies himself as a hunter. Making difficult shots is his bag, baby.
Don't believe it's terrorism, that would be targeted IMHO.
I also don't believe that he left a note saying "your children are at risk" - I reckon that that's the police trying to psyche him into phoning to say "I wouldn't do that"...
My own personal theories

I'm with Chiark on this one.
edit: On the contrary STi wanna Subaru, I think the guy is ex CIA. He's too good in the art of terrorrising and sniper killings. You do know that the CIA trained Osama and Co. right?

Yes I know the Americans trained the Al Qaeda. I'm not sure of the snipers motives therefore I wouldn't be able to say he was out to terrorise. Undoubtedly he is but are we able to say that is his reason for doing what he is doing? He could be doing this for kicks! Sick as that is. He is obviously skilled with his weapon of choice but could that not be somebody with military training? You have based your comment on him likely being ex-CIA because of his ability to terrorise. Personally I think he is just doing it because he is getting kicks from leading the authorities a merry dance and the notoriety he has gained.
