Sony DVP-s536D Problems

My Dvd player has started playing up, and I wanna know why...
About 50% of the time it won't read the DVD and claims "no disk" when there is one in there. Sometimes it'll read the disk and give me the C:13:00 error code (which means the disk is dirty, -> the disk is NOT dirty). When it does read the DVD it'll play layer0 okay, then when playing layer1 is jitters loads, and sometimes resets it self to the beginning of the film.
I've put a CD/DVD cleaner in it, and it still happens.
I went to the sony centre and they didn't have a clue, they gave me Sony's techincal help number, and they are not open at sensible times (like 9am).
Any help/comments (sensible) appreciated.
