Do they actually go that fast in our atmosphere? Thought they only got to that speed once they leave it and there is no gravity pushing down on it.

Im quite into it, even got application forms. Needs 8000flying hours, Im colour blind so that out
yes mate, hit 28,000 to beat gravity, then float around at 17,000 mph! Still not bad
I saw the John Glenn launch and landing, agreed one of the best things ive witnessed.

That is the mother of all fast things. Big up to the yanks. They maybe able to build re-orbital space vehicles but they can't build automobiles that go round corners!

super_si: It's a good job you can't become a shuttle pilot. I don't think that Scoobynet could respond quickly enough to your posts in Computer Related to enable you to fly it at that speed!!
