Boring finance question I know, but how would you borrow 5K as cheaply as possible? Credit card? Bank loan? Know very little about borrowing so layman advice really appreciated

Thanks in advance.

if you've got a couple of credit cards try transfering the balance to get a preferential rate.

Wink

Depends how long you want to borrow over / how much you want to pay per month.

You can juggle interest free credit cards, but the minimum monthly repayment is 5%.

Otherwise liookk on Money extra, but don't get hung up on 0.1 or 0.2 on the difference in interest rates, the difference in repayments is pennies per month.

Sainbburys 4.5% flat - others similar or a little better.
I got 4% when bought wifes car from Vauxhall.
Paying off 5k over 4 years @ 4.5% = £125 per month (no protection)

Bank loan sounds a bit boring.

Juggling 0% credit cards sounds fun, 5% no problem. Anyone know who is offering these deals?

Family/friends is out. Cap in hand stuff is not my bag.

Could try the gee gees I suppose.

Capital One credit card is advertising on the TV 0% interest on new purchases for the first six months - once this is over, there are bound to be offers to get 0% on balance transfers to another credit card - just make sure you pay it off though...

Yes, but over 25 years. If you're buying a car that can effectively be written off over 10 years then you will still be paying for another 15 years for something that you no longer have.

I would go for a bank / building society loan. Look in the papers or on the web at sites like moneyextra which compare the best buys. Just watch out for 'partner' sites which always seem to have a good deal
