9pm, road very quiet (Butts Hill Rd between Sonning and Woodley) i thought it was a 40 limit, get the blues flashing.
i pull in a side road to avoid holding up traffic (and win some sensible points! )
Cop comes to window (age 50 ish, old school cop)
"sir, i apprieciate its a nice fast car and the roads are quiet but you do need to pay attention to your speed, do you know the limit for that rd?"
"err....its a 40 isnt it?"
"no sir, its 30 and you were doing 50, as i said its easy in these fast cars so just pay more attantion ok?"
"yep, fair point..i'll watch what im doing"
"good , cheers mate...drive carefull"
off he goes! what a nice sensible cop!
Tiggs

Wish i was that lucky. Got 3 points for 39 mph on a clear, wide, empty, open road with no hidden junctions or anything ,on a nice sunny day with excellent visibility. The ba5+@rd who gave me the ticket was my next door neighbour.

What a contrast! The first story breeds respect for the boys in blue as well as ensuring that you will watch your speed next time. I bet Tiggs will always be a bit more careful the next time he goes down that road.
The second just makes you feel hard done to and opressed, thus breeding resentment.
Common sense is a wonderful thing.........unfortunately it is in very short supply in this country.

I think me getting done by my neighbour might have had something to do with his rather fit 17 y.o. daughter attending a party at my house on one particular occasion. Thing is though... it had nothing to do with me... it was my young brother.

Tiggs, u is a lucky man, remember there is also a camera on that round, going into woodley.
Also watch out for shephards hill, going into Reading, they often put traps on their, even at 11pm at night. I got and sp30 for doing 56 in the 40 (dual carriageway) there.

Just playing Devil's Advocate, but why is it always the case in these threads that when someone get's 'let off' with a word in their ear from the policeman that it's 'nice, sensible copper', but when they don't they're an '*******'?
Sounds less like supporting the officers judgement and more like bring thankful you got off scott-free. If he had ticket'd you for the 50 in a 30 limit then would you put your hands up and say 'it's a fair cop'? I suspect not!
Simon.

simon, as soon as the lights went on i thought, oh well £30 and a few points. that is what i expected and deserved, i have a clean licence and £30 spare so no big deal. had this happened i would have been fine......had he been a ****, points or not, i would have taken his number and reported him and posted on here that i meet an **** of a cop. if every time a cop was rude/agressive/etc someone said "excuse me, i appreciate i have done wrong and it is job to explain that to me and punish in some way if appropriate BUT...if your manner does not alter i will take your number and report you" then im sure the **** cops would shut up.

ps- before anyone says "yeah, id bet you wouldnt really say that..." maybe not if i was done for 110mph but when im looking at 3 points max yes i would!
