Having spent last week at a luvly hotel on holiday, i couldn't help wince at the names dear Mr and Mrs Bell who were also there, had called their girls;
Cressida and Tatiyana
Now they were a very well to do family, but even so, where did they get the idea that a junk Japanese car name was fit for one of their daughters? And Tatiyana? Pretentious? Precious moi?
Maybe it's me, but i just had to shake my head at those names...

Guy I used to work with always liked the name Mercedes, but was reluctant to call his daughter that 'cos of the motor industry associations. In the end he settled on using it as a middle name, calling her Belinda Mercedes Williams.
They had a last-minute change of plan 6 hours before the registration when somebody pointed out the conflict between the initials and the middle-name!

Friend of mine's brother was called Dwayne Pipes...
There's a chap in Germany who wants to call his son Osama Bin Laden and is kicking up because the German Govt won't let him..
There's also a child in Japan called Oxford University Press - his parents saw it written in a book and thought it was a name.

Cressida is fine IMHO, but titanya (sp?) is a little OTT.
Things to think about (as I happen to be thinking of kiddie names at the moment...) is if you choose a popular name, like Jack or whatever, is you kid going to have 2-3 other Jacks in his class at school. Pain in the backside.

Bros2, nope, not at any length, over-rated and irrelevant these days IMHO.
Go on then, are they both Shakespeare characters or something?
Was that Posh and Becks' justification for Romeo..?

No one but me should be called Jack. During my younger years <cough> I was the only Jack within a decade of my age. If someone called out "Jack" they meant me. I now walk around Tescos jumping whenever someone shouts for their kid. So, can you all stop please, thanks.

"Troilus and Cressida" was Shakespeare's 3rd longest play, but it feels much longer. The worst of the lot, I'd say, and he wrote some stinkers.
"A Midsummer Night's Dream" has a character called Titania, played by Michelle Pfeiffer in the recent film version.

My fiancee's boss had a kid a few years ago and wanted to call him Blue. Their surname is Emery so it was quickly pointed out that it sounded like a type of sandpaper
In the end they settled for Beck. I hated it at first but I have to admit it has grown on me.

My dad's got what most people would call an asexual name; Leslie. Although the female version is usually spelt Lesley.
Has never bothered him in the slightest though, but i'd struggle if it was me..

What gets me is parents who insist on calling their kids by the FULL name.
For example: they never say "Alex" or "Stef" whatever, it's always "Alexander ..." "Stephanie ..."
At the playground a few days ago (I was with my kids, alright? ) there was another kid called Joshua. His mum said to me:
"So is your son Joshua or Josh?"

My little girl, Olivia, refuses to be called anything other than Ollie (or the Oll-monster).
On the other hand, my son Lucas (Prince of Darkness) refuses to answer to Luke, only to his full name.
Kids, eh? Can't live with them, can't stick them up a chimney.

CEO at Kodak used to be called Dick Burns (and yes, he used that in correspondence)
My favourite was US Car Racer (NASCAR?) called Dick Trickle.
Oh, and of course Cardinal Sin (Korean IIRC)

Had a Malaysian guy at school whose name was Chi See Dik (probably spelt differently) but you can guess the amusement it caused.
My Dad came home with an Indian guy's business card - Deep Bummer.
Made me laugh...
