SAD DAY FOR THE MOVIE WORLD
Tom cant fly F14's
Arnold isnt really a robot
and when Marty McFly does that walky/hop thing across the stage he isnt really playing that guitar.
ENTERTAINMENT is what its about. When i watch Liberty X bopping about i dont care if they wrote it as long as they visualy and audioally satisfy me.

Sorry Tiggs but youre just swallowing the crap that the record companies feed you.
There is nothing wrong with a talented artist putting a new spin on an old piece of music or even sampling but when we are fed track after track of covers played by pretty boys/girls because record companies cant be arsed/risk paying for a decent writer for new material.
i feel rightly agrieved
lets face it the record companies control the radio playlists and just about every major record shop in the country so if they can save money by paying a pittance to some arrogant little no talent tossser to wail out another pete waterman style remix and get idiots to keep buying it.
why should they bother trying to look for real talent

>>on the subject (of cover versions, not ms shaws bits) why are they remaking manhunter with anthony hopkins? now that is a stpid idea.
You are kidding me tiggs? That is one of my fave films, vastly underrated and *much much* better than silence or hannibal, anthony hopkins is good but IMHO he is not as good as Brian ***.
Mind you heat was originally done by Michael Mann as LA Takedown and both versions are pretty good.
O one more things guys, dumb *** ? time; how do i do a 'quote'?

MarkO: "All I'm saying, though, is that whilst you may not personally like Hear'say, et al, that doesn't by default make them crap. Similarly, I know and respect Led Zeppelin's music, but I don't enjoy listening to it."
Which is all very well, but just because you like to listen to them doesn't mean that they aren't crap either!. Pop music is by definition, not designed to be an innovative product or appeal to niche markets, and is therefore a reflection of the tastes of those who buy most records (i.e. 13 year old girls). There should be no suprises here...
I don't think that comparisons of artistic merit can easily be made between genres, I also can't really imagine someone saying that they know and respect Hear'Say's music, but don't enjoy listening to it!. Why not? because you've heard it all before.
It is a shame that much of the exciting and innovative music being produced doesn't benefit from the profile and marketing resources of mainstream artists, but thankfully it is still out there if you can be bothered to look. I can't really imagine ever being suprised by the output of the manufactured acts, and it is a shame that more people are denied the possibility of experiencing the stimulation, excitement and pleasure of discovering music that innovates and challenges your perceptions because the majors are addicted to playing it safe.
Unsuprisingly, record sales are continuing to slide in part because what new material is released is less and less interesting, even to the mainstream, and competition for their free time and entertainment budget continues to get tougher.
Cheers,
Alex

Mark,
Whether music is niche of mainstream is completely irrelevant to me.
Re: innovation and 'goodness' - I like to try new food because I DON'T always know what to expect and am sometimes pleasantly suprised. Many people eat MacDonalds for exactly the opposite reason, but it can only be 'good' within their limited frame of reference.
My point is that reduction in diversity of accessible, mainstream media leads to an impairment of your critical faculties.
EDIT: not meant to imply that your tastes are defective

HOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRAAAAAAHHHHHH.
<Rant mode on>
No more manufactured sh1te from this bunch.
How many more to go? - Too fecking many.
These bands (And I use that term very loosly) are killing the music industry with their mass produced sh1te. They are brainwashing and distracting the up coming generations away from real music played on real instruments and writen by the artist that are performing them.
Thank god for the Hearsay demise. I hope that they realise that they have absolutly no fecking talent and should go back to whatever job they perviously had.

Tiggs.....read my post again.
My point is:
If these so called bands were not around the 13 year olds would be listening to and buying "real music" as I stated.

Ban everything that's popular! The only true music is the music of the spheres!
Sorry, that was sarcasm.
If you think that removing one produced band will pave the way for quality artists then I admire your faith in human nature but suggest "Capitalism for beginners".
The music industry is just that: an industry. It exists to make lots of money, and not for the people that actually do the work in the majority of cases.
Me? I like a diverse range of things from classical (rarely) through to alternative noisy things with most points in between. My tastes have undoubtedly been influenced by what a record company decides will sell, even in the alternative space.
You pays yer money and takes yer choice.
But I'm glad Hear'Say have disappeared up their own ****, possibly for the heinous crime of atrocious misuse of the apostrophe which in my opinion should be a capital offence anyhow .

If you start slating the use of 'non-traditional' instrumentation (synths, sampling etc) and ignore every artist who doesn't write all their own material, you'd find that a good proportion of music from the last 50 years came into that category!

Jason,
then it is up to us to show them the 'error of their ways!'
As a soon to be father I hope I can at least show my son/daughter alternatives to the current crop of sh*te, well at least when they get old enough to and have my guitars/amps/keyboards littered around the house in the hope they may be naturally musically gifted (unlike me!!!)

Cheers Gary.
Every tim I post an opinion people take it as a dig.
My point in short is that there are so many manufactured bands that can sing very well but have no other musical talents. I just think that a band that has formed, practiced, gigged and worked really hard for thier record contracts are being pushed aside in the current influx of "Groups" that are thrown together and will have a life of 12 months max.
I think success should be worked for and earned not presented to you on the condition that you will become a puppet for some music bod.
Just my opinion. May be right may be wrong.
Thankyou....Jason has left the building.

I thought they had split up already... oh well.
The current trend for good looking manufactured bands is worrying. If the record companies keep going with the "pretty" bands then we will lose out.
Just think no "Fairy Tale of New York" well the Pogues are hardly a good-looking bunch are they! Good music though, IMO of course.
