I'm thinking of doing an evening class to learn a new language. It was a toss up between russian/japanese, but as most of my family live in singapore, Japanese might be more useful (okay I don't speak any variations of chinese, which seems extremely relevant, but that's fecking hard!)

Just wondering if any english born and bred speakers have learn't japanese from scratch? Is it fun?

My sister has learnt it from scratch. She seems quite fluent now (but what would I know ?). I do remember that it took a while, but she did learn at evening classes.

She is looking at Manderin Chinese next (I think).

I learned a bit for my old job, and a few english people I worked with became fluent, but a word of warning.... its fecking hard, possibly the hardest language to master from scratch.
if your determined to do it then good luck, it'll take a long time, but be worth it in the end

Lived over there for 8 months and studied the language. I can read Katakana and Hiragana but struggle with the 6000 Kanji
