Don't want to sound like a tart, but my finger nails are disgusting. For as long as I can remember I have either bitten or picked at them. They look minging !

I've tried "stop n grow" but that doesn't help coz I just start picking at them. Can anyone help ? Has anyone else had this problem ?

Evil Bevel - I'm 22 now and have smoked since I was 16, but I was biting my nails when i was very young. Before I started smoking anyway.

Were you thinking it was withdrawal symptoms ? Good thought but I can smoke at work whenever I want so that sort of rules that one out...?

coat your finger nails in something disgusting or bandage them up - either way you'll look daft!

Nail biting is a stress thing. I've managed to leave mine alone, although I can't bear 'em any longer than abt 1mm.
Now I've got eczma all over both hands, and the doc says that's a stress thing too................................[img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img]

I'm sure some people are more easily addicted to habit's than others though and find them much harder to break. My Dad used to smoke and just gave up no probs..I must get it from him.

I have a rather nice (but annoying) boyfriend who tells me every time I have my hands in my mouth. Get fed up hearing him, so stop it.

I have by no means long, manicured nails, but they at least look reasonable.

Women have the ability to put nail varnish on their nails, this also helps coz it means I don't want them to look bad. I don't suggest this for men coz you'll look like Eddy Izzard.

have the same problem, they normally grow on holiday then get munched a couple of weeks later. When I have finger nails it enables me to pick my toe nails as I am not as flexible as I was when I was 7 so can't get them in my mouth.
