What are peoples opinions on tattoos? I am seriously considering getting one and was just wondering what people think about them.
Anyone had one and regretted it?

Personaly I love them, those of you that know me will know that I have a tribal design tattoo running from my shoulder to my wrist on my right arm, all my own design and am very pleased with it. It is not finished though and will eventualy move up onto my shoulder/back ala 'Dusk till Dawn' but I will not bring it onto my neck.

I just had a tribal panther cut into the top of my left arm, running from my shoulder to my elbow (covered when wearing a t-shirt), this was only done sat afternoon and looks quite impressive (IMHO).

All of these are basic black tribal stuff, never been into the colour stuff. Remember that the black stuff tends to need to be cut a little deeper (well, the outline does) and this is painfull, even had me whincing on sat! The couple of days following the tat tend to be very tender, rolling over in bed etc can hurt a bit, its now tues and my arm now is fine, the skin is tightening up and the dead skin is beginning to come away, should all be healed in about a week or so.

On blokes you really need to have the correct build, a full tribal on a skinney guy with no muscles would look awful, put the same tat on a well built bloke and it will suit very well. On a woman I have never really been a fan, however my last GF had a small tribal design cut to the base of her spine, that was very sexy and always caught my eye - as well as every other sodding bloke [img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img] .

Like em meself, at the end of the day, I dont care what people think of them (I dont even see them anymore, dont even notice they are there), I like em and thats all that counts. I remember having the first one done on my forearm, I came home and my GF burst into tears She was distraught and totaly gutted, bit of an over reaction I thought, as did most others. If you are considering getting one, make sure you are 100% sold on the idea and consider the people that are close to you.

This is good advice, my first was just two years ago, now I have three, the two on my right arm pretty much run the whole length! Im already planning the 'modifications' to the originals....... All right, vampire killers... let's kill some ******* vampires.

Tatoos .........I love em

I have 2 at the moment
First one I had was a celtic dragon on my right upper arm, goes from the shoulder to 2" above the elbow.

Then I had a mythical Dragon in grey shade with shaddow, the head sits on my chest, left hand side, the neck goes up to my shoulder and the body and tail continue down my back to below the shoulder blade.

I would suggest you always check the artists work and if possible go and view him/her at work before you make a decision. That was you can check the working practises and the skill.

Make sure you pick something that you're going to like FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, then go for it.

Don't let anyone tell you that it doesn't hurt because it does but you do get used to it.

Not a big fan myself! If they're not too big, and they're not sommat like a chuffin great tiger on ya arm then ya should be ok. I do think some people suit them and others don't. I certainly don't.

The black lines hurt more than the colouring in, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, I was in such a "WTF am I doing panic" It didnt hurt that much, I love it, even now 7 years later and have been wanting to have another but it has to be a maori design and I havent seen a design I liked yet, anyone with a nice maori design pls post a photo Cheers

I think it depends where you have it, what size it is,I agree some people look rank with tats some look good, If its personal to you have it done, mine was very personal, and no matter what people say I dont really care,it was for me and it was in memory.

Small ones are always better IMHO - especially on women.

The first is always the hardest to get done but if you've thought it through for a while (I'd give it a month or so) then I so no reason why not. May be worth getting it traced onto where you want it then seeing how it looks on you.

The ones that hurt are the detailed ones that take 1 hour + to ink or ones over bone which really hurt. Make sure you choose a reputable tattoo artist - check his work out on other customers if possible as the difference between good and bad is astounding. I was lucky in that the place I chose (by pure chance) happened to be that of World Renowned Tattoo Artist Darren Stares who specialises in portraits which are the hardest tattoos to do.

I considered getting a tattoo but decided against it after considering what it would look like in 20+ years so decided to get my nipple pierced instead. The thinking being that I can take it out when I get bored.

4 years after having my nipple done it wasn't very unusual anymore so decided to get the same nipple pierced again so I now have a ring horizontally and a barbell vertically. This is still unusual today and the chicks love it

The only bad thing now is when I do decide to take the piercings out I will have one HUGE nipple

Defo agree about checking the artists work first, they are dearer but the quality of workmanship is far superior. Took me ages to decide, then finally took the plunge. Bricking it at first but felt ok, then after 30 mins I just wanted him to finish it as quick as poss as it bugs the hell out of ya!! Feels like a needle point scaping over your skin, and after a while it gets a tad irratating[img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img] Not thought about going for a brand

main thing you have to watch out for these days is price, because they are a "cult" product you will get chatged a fortune.

depends on you as aperson and where you want them, I myself am in management and have a total of 7.

proud of every one and all personnal to me, there is still a stigma these days and of course a lot of people with their own opinion.

a lot of places these days use a transfer to make the outline. Black is done with a single point needle and feels like tearing the skin where colour is done multi-point so takes less time. Anywhere where there is bone will hurt more and the centre of the back , I have 2 at the base of my spine and one is detailed black line art which took ages.


All comes down to you

1. Are you prepared to wear it all your life
2. It's not just a fashion item you really want it
3. If it's nice be prepared for 3 figure price.

most of all have something different , family crest is a good idea but quite basic, could try and enhance

You should only get a tattoo if you think it looks good,you have to live with it for the rest of your life not the people you are asking on here.
If you are not sure then don`t get one.
Best to get it on part of the body that can be covered for work as some companies will not like it and also if you don`t like it you don`t see it all the time.
Yes I have a tattoo,I don`t regret it,it looks good but I have got to say it chuffing hurts when you get it done.

i dont know how big you want that design, but if you were to have it on the upper arm, say on the deltoid, guessing at the size in real life, i would say between £55-£70, depending on who does it, if shadings involved etc.
avoid a 'round' design like that on your bicep, as it will always 'distort' depending on the position of your arm. choose an area like the top of the arm, shoulder blade or calf.
the calf is a good location for your first one. its easily covered (if you have second thoughts ) the design will always sit nicely, and its not too painful.
easier to work quickly on the calf too, so you wont suffer as much.
the outline isnt necessarily done with a single, usually its a 3. a single needle outline hurts FAR more than a 3, and can look a little 'scratchy'.
i would recommend a little 'water shading' in your design. looks kinda like its done with pencil, and will enhance the design,make it more 'solid', rather than look naff say if colours added.

choose your artists wisely. dont always go on friends advice. look at his work in his photo book. no, not the designs on the wall (anyone can hang a pretty design on their wall )but look at photos of what he's done. see if hes had any work featured in the various tattoo magazines out there (skin deep is recommended)

be prepared to travel!! sometimes the right artist is in the next town(not on your doorstep) or could be 50 miles away or more. its worth the trip for the right shop, as a fukked up tattoo will do your head in , i kid you not.

finally, good luck, dont be a jessie, and get it done!

You should only get one done for a special occasion, os special time in your life.

My fiancee and I recently had our first major overseas holiday together (i.e. without going with other people) and it was really good. Whilst there I was tempted to get a lizard done on my arm, to signify the great holiday we had together, and it is also the logo of my business which is going well.

Bricked it in the end though

one of the blokes had a chat up line of " iv'e got your name tattoed on my ****"

when the slapper he was chatting up said she didn't beleive him he dropped his strides to reveal " your " on one cheek and "name" on the other.

it would be funny for about a week, but after that your left with 2 pointless words tattoed across your backside.

where was that program filmed by the way, did anyone see the "half time " tactics talk in the kebab shop- classy or what!

I was thinking of getting it in the CORNER of my back.

But seriously, I don't really want it on any of my limbs so was thinking about my shoulder blade. I'm not really planning on showing it off.
I've tried to find something that I would be happy to have on me and I am proud of my family name and my Scottish ancestry - nothing will ever change that so there is no problem in that respect . Also, I lost a close friend recently and we had always talked about getting a tattoo done so it would also be a mark of respect to my friend.

Saying that, I'm still not 100% sure and until I am, I wont be getting it done

One of my raver mates has quite a few. He has a huuuuge one on his back of tigger bouncing on his tail. On his chest he has the hardcore heaven logo. Everyone questions this one but he says he will look at it when hes older and it will remind him of the happy times and memories hes got of being there. Which is fair enough, you have to admit.
Myself? I would quite like one that looks like a rubber stamp which says "MADE IN WALES" I've also considered having "astraboy" on my arm. Only prob is that if my old dear sees them she says she'll write me out of her will I dont doubt it either so I aint having them done

Respect to the memory of your friend but I always thought that what I have in my mind will always be with me, so apart from all other reasons as well, no need for a tattoo.

Decide wisely, this will stay with you.

I wanted a tattoo when i was 16. By the time I was 21, I still wanted one.

I decided on a design, went and got it done (first one was on my right bum cheek ). Loved it
Second one was on my left bum cheek love that one too

Am thinking about another on my left shoulder, will think about that one as it will be visible, whereas the other ones are pretty hideable

I do not regret getting them and wouldn't change the design of either of them
The only problem was waiting the 12 months to start dontating blood again.

At the end of the day, it is YOUR body, not someone elses. If you want to have a tattoo, then do it!!!! But just remember, a tattoo is for life, not just for christams

I hope you make the right decision for yourself, not other people some people like my tattoos, others don't. So what??? I like them and that is what counts
