Hope this isn't 'off topic' (sorry if it is) but as i recently got caught speeding in my scooby I was interested to see some of the in car detectors available to avoid getting caught. I know, best not to exceed the limit but lets face it, most of us do at sometime!

The Belltronics Euro 550 is one recommended to me, what do you guys think?

The bell 550 rates v highly.

I recently purchased a snooper s5 and am happy with it although it hasnt seen a real speed trap yet.

The way i read it, the bell is aimed more at the european market and the thought of voice alerts rather than tones didnt appeal.

The s5 is designed specifically for britain and has all the features i wanted, recently rated on a par with the valentine one. One of the main mags did a review of it and it was v complimentary.

And the bell was 60 quid dearer than the S5.

I've had a Bel Euro 550 since they came out - over twelve months now. It is great. It's very sensitive, you can turn bands and frequencies on and off - to remove false alarms (though the UK mode removes X-band anyway, so no falsies from temp traffic lights and pelican crossings). If travelling across Europe you can press one button to change mode to any European country, or even NA.

It's sensitivity does lead it to false if you mount a mobile phone close to it though. I just put up with it, and turn the 550 off when I'm using the phone.

It is the best detector on the market - except perhaps the Bel 996 or whatever the split unit is called - bar none. I investigated many before making a purchase, as I'd been a disillusioned user of a cr@p Cobra detector before... Many reviews rate it better than the V1, even on the crucial sensitivity to Gatsos test - especially as the V1 angles the display away from the UK driver...

It is also one of a small number of models to detect Ka that is needed for mobile Gatsos.

I'd recommend one any time.

You want a GPS Gatso/Truvelo spotter like Road Angel and a Snooper lazer jammer. Try www.blackspot.com

My concern is around when you've got it prominently mounted in the middle of the windscreen and you get pulled over for your efforts. Defeating the ends of justice? Illegal use? etc.

Not illegal now in the UK.

Prevention is always better than detection.
