Ok, if I was to go out and buy a nice big "Jodrall Bank" dish for my garden, which of these can be received ?

Sky Sports 1 (N.D.S.)
ART Sport 2 (irdeto II)
P.W. Sport 1 (BetaCrypt)
Tele+ Nero (Seca II)
Canal+ Nordic (Conax)
Sport TV (Nagravision)

A few of my mates are saying its possible to get all sorts of footy this way.

Whats the craic ?

You would be best buying and reading a copy of "What Satellite Dish?" or similar, as it is a complex subject.

The bigger the dish, the more stations you can potentially receive - but you will need a motorised dish to take advantage of them.

A big dish (over 90cm) will need planning permission.

On the dish you will need one or more LNBs (Low Noise Blocks) which are on the sticky-out bit and pick up the signal reflected from the dish.

The wires from these will go into a receiver (which must be able to tune into your required frequencies). You will then need decoders for any encrypted channels (plus smart-cards to activate them).

Some channels (mainly France) use SECAM rather than PAL used in the rest of Europe - thus a converter is needed.

Oh, and for digital channels (like Sky) you will also need digital decoder boxes.

How big is your cheque book?

As Boomer say's "How big is your cheque book",or more to the point,is it just the premiership you wish to watch,if so sky digital is best probably,as it will cost as much if not more to receive the football on other satellites, keeping in mind that if you get a digi-box,plus motorised dish,it's going to cost around £500 for a good setup. However if you are an enthusiast for loads of channels/choice and are multi-lingual,then the multi-sat is best, but generally you still have to buy/subscribe to other foreign channels as decent free to air channels are abit restrictive to quality tv.But then this is only my opinion.
Hope this helps,or confuses you more
Dean
