Can work charge me the excess on their car insurance?

Just run into the back of someone at about 2mph! Cracked the number plate on the mondeo (my car) and pushed the bumper in on their Astra.
I am insured on works policy but can they send me a bill for the excess?

Yes they can, but only if agreed with you first. You should have something in your employment contract.
I had a company car before and had 1 smash. Didn't pay any excess, but the company put measures in-place so they wouldn't get stung again.
Needless to say, I opted to run my own car

Yes I believe they can. I think you will find it in the small print of your companys "Company Car Policy".
Most companys pass on the excess to their employees, it's the only way of making them take some care when driving the cars, knowing that any damage will impact their pockets.
One company I used to work for let you have one smash at their cost, any others and the excess came out of your pocket.
One guy who worked for us wrote of 4 cars in 8 months, so they fired him, said he was a risk to the rest of the company car insurance policy, which seemed fair enough to the rest of us, as he was truly dangerous and had zero driving skills, drove drunk after company partys and generally fecked around.

If its only a small bump why not pay for the repairs yourself if the excess is a bit steep. I know where I used to work it was £500 excess for your first claim and £1000 for every claim after that. Made sure we took care behind the wheel.
