I've got one of these damm phones with the sliding cover and already its loose.

When I receive a call if I slight touch the cover when it closes it cuts them off.

There a little mirco switch and a raised part in the cover that when they make contact lock the key pad.

Can you switch off the annoying feature?

Don't think so, I've never had any trouble; same 8850 for 15months. Maybe yours is faulty??

I had the same problem with mine, it always cut the call for no apparent reason (usually on important calls) and the reception was awful. Then the screen went. It lasted 3 months.

Its a pose phone for well off children. I gave mine away to a 12 year old and went back to my battered old 5110.

Red face

I've had my 8850 for over 2 years now. Zero problems in that time. If you want the slider to stop working, you could cut the pin switch off.... But wouldn't recommend it.

Talking

I fixed it. I erased the little bump in the cover with my trusty penknife.

Hey presto no cut off and I can still lock the keypad with menu *

My last phone motorola V3688 lasted 3 years before the screen went awol.

This is my first nokia. Won't get a one with a sliding cover again

Have had 8850's for over 3 years now - damn that first one was pricy!

Vodafone have now cancelled my insurance due to 2 claims in 12 months. One was for faulty screen (not my bloody fault!) and yes the phone did get pissed and went walkabout the other time. Screens do fail on most Nokias in me and my colleagues experience...

Nothing has impressed me to change it yet though - I do not need e-mails on hols (!) and it fits in the shirt pocket beautifully. It also looks subtle and business-like - some of these new ones' looks would suit a tarts handbag comfortably!!!

Roll on 3G though.
