OK - I have up to £20k ish to spend on a "fun" car for myself. What should I consider ?
Dont care too much about fuel economy as its not going to do that many miles.
I am open to anything so please suggest away !!
I currently drive an STi4 with mods.

340R can be a very expensive car to own, battery dies and it's a body off job to replace - £750 labour
If it's just for fun I'd get a Caterham blade(too snobby for a fugly westfield me )
If it needs to be able to do all weather weekends away for 2 I'd have an Elise.
If it needs to be 4 seater practical I'd have a 911.
4 seats and a boot I'd have an Evo6.

Evo6 seems a bit repetitive if you have an STi 4. For a real change I'd either suggest an old supercar (can you get a 1988 911 turbo for that money yet?) for the "experience", perhaps a Ferrari, or more likely a Caterham or Elise.

Have a look there for specialist servicing - menu pricing too which is nice. For 20k you'd be getting a nice original UK 964 (I'd have a C2, C4 understeers) with probably full Porsche service history.
I've got to admit I'm older than alot of people here (32) so I bought into Porsche at an early age, and Subaru much later.
I'm very seriously thinkning about getting rid of our S3 and getting a 964 or 993 to keep the scoob company - then bringing the old Micra back into service as a supermarket-run car LOL
No idea about insurance, but I am old, and may be able to limit the milage.

My mate is selling a silver evo 6 for about the price your after.
It has HKS exhaust and filter and done about 20,000 miles (i think).
Lovely car, and bloody quick, and in the Berkshire area(not to far from you.....ish).
For more info, his email is stuartp@lsil.com
If i could afford it, id have it myself.
By the way im pretty sure it has FSH.
And i think hes only the second owner, i think he bought it with about 6000 miles on the clock.

I went the 340R route, you'd get one for under 20k, might struggle to get an Exige for that, drive both first
I have mine for sale but want a little more than 20k.

As for the body off stuff, yes its true, although I was taking to an owner and he take is own off in 50 mins. If the body is off you can get the battery replaced by a race one which is smaller and can be removed through the access panels. Plus it has a socket for a trickle charger to keep it topped up when in storage.
I'd say the Lotus/Caterham/Westfield is the route top go, good fun at reasonable costs.
Mine does 25-30mpg on a blast and 35-40mpg on a run
Insurance is £600, not using any no claims and includes unlimited track cover (even cheaper on a westie)
Skip.

Try a nice Skyline R33 GTR - thats what I bought - mail me or go to www.gtr.co.uk for more info
For that money you should be able to get a 500bhp early car or a later car with about 400bhp (as I have)

ive had sti's, an r33, s4, etc etc etc. the only car you should consider is an evo 6. to say a scooby is on a par with an evo is laughable. scoobys are nice, great character etc.
BUT a 6 is in a different league. buy a 6 for 18k with sensible mods, then send it to RC or ralliart for some tweeks. you will LOVE it
and when youre bored, send it back again for more affordable tweeks, and get power most scoobys can only dream of. sorry, but its my honest opinion.

dunno mate. there are threads on the mlr which go into depth about servicing, mpg etc etc. ive never really thought about it, as i dont do many miles a year, if i did , i would have a golf diesel
when i look at my black 6, get in and turn the key, i dont give a **** what it costs. ive had it 4 months now (quite some time for me) and ive not thought about selling it once. infact i get more of a buzz from it every day. shes having a leather/alcantara retrim at the moment, getting E7 wheels put on, ap 6 pots etc etc. shes already had the RC stage 3 upgrade quick as fukk!!
as i say, best car ive ever owned. does everything so well
