I now also have Petplan and although I haven't actually made a claim on it yet I would also advise everyone who has a pet to get it......

Last year I ended up for a bill of over £600.00 and still ended up with a dead cat, not very nice!

Nick.

my bullterrier is covered and because of dodgy knees cost £000's in vet bills each year- never had any probs getting my costs back though (less excess) well worth it.

<Wipes away tears of laughter>

We are with Petplan for our old dog. Can't change to somebody cheaper as we would have to declare his knackered back legs and hence not be covered on the new policy.

Agree with all said above. But I didn't have any insurance on mine.

My Cat got hit by a car and the final bill was £1350 and the vets reckons they charged me half price. He basically should have had both back legs chopped off really, but the vet thought he could sort it out, if we agreed to pay. So I did, thinking it would cost around £250.

Anyway, three years later and the cat has both legs in tact and to be honest if you saw him you wouldn't know

If you have pets you should insure them!!!

Cheers Phill C

Bollocks, for £20 you can get two new kittens.

It's a bit like insuring the car when for less than the cost of the insurance you can get a new one with less miles on the clock.

Go figure.

Before I get flamed, I own two cats and only take them to the vet in extreme circumstance - it costs £30 + no matter what so it's cheaper to wash their infected paws in salt water instead.

One had an op for a REALLY infected leg a while ago, went to pick him up in the evening and he looked absolutely fooked with yellow vomit down his chest. When the woman said it was £60 I laughed and said 'for that?' pointing at said cat. She didn't laugh so I paid up and left quietly.....

we have our dog insured and touch wood so far have not had to claim.. I think you need to be careful when trying to switch insurers on older animals.. some will only insure over a certain age if they already have a number of years with that insurer. (certainly used to be the case)

I love here very much and I just hope she hasn't started reading Scoobynet... else I am in the dog house all weekend...

Would I then qualify for cover having been in the dog house?

Its Friday... I am trying to keep cheery as I am about to drive 200miles during rush hours!

Doh

I have 3 cats. The youngest, Brian, is 8 months old now and last Sunday we found him foaming at the mouth, so took him to the vets.

He had damaged the end of his tongue and his chin, i think by jumping off a wall and smacking his chin on the ground and biting his tongue. He is a bit poorly still but after 4 visits to the vest for over 50 quid each i am soooo glad he is covered by Petplan !!

Add to this the recent castration and cut paw and the vets bill recently have been very expensive !!

Would advise anyone with a cat especially to think about Petplan. If you let me recommend you i get 20 quid in M&S vouchers and you get a month free !

Dave

Glad Brian is OK!

Petplan sound like a good idea, is it from the vets or how do i find out about it?

Paul

DOH! - Just saw RichB's post

BTW - shouldn't you have got a surgeon to perform your castration, i did not realise vets could do people

My vet recommended Petplan. This is because if the cat gets run over and breaks its leg, then Petplan will cover any related problems with the leg for the cats lifetime, while places like Sainos, Tesco, etc will exclude it. My sister fell foul of this.

The vet also said that Petplan are better for them to deal with and are more open to discussion on claims.

Dave

P.S. If you are interested in Petplan and the free month, mail me the details i need to put on the "Recommend a Friend" page and I will recommend you.

got our cat insured with healthy pets - cheaper than tesco/sainsbury at the time but haven't had to claim yet (touch wood)
