[serious mode]

Guys - please be careful and go for checkups. I spent 2 years in and out of eye hospitals with my other half (detached retina, not lense related) and saw so many cases of people who had problems due to wearing lenses and not having check ups. I wore lenses at the time and had a chat with a few of the doctors who recommend stongly you don't wear them - so at least please get them checked! After all, you can't drive a scoob with dodgy eyes... You only get two eyes - look after them!

Question

I can't understand why I only had to go for bi-annual check ups on long term soft and gas permeable lenses, then when I switch to three month packs I have to go every three months?

The optician said they would be better for my eyes, yet I have to have more check ups

Dollond & Aitcheson do a "Lenses by Post" scheme.
10, 15 or 30 pairs a month for (wait for it) £10, £15 or £30.
I've been on the scheme for a year now and never had a check up (no lectures please).
You shouldn't need any kind of test if your prescription is no older than 18 months.

Laser surgery worked for me !

P.S When I wore contact lenses (which IMHO are way overpriced and opticians do nothing to dispel the myth that you need to clean, soak and religiously follow a 'money pit' regime in order to have healthy eyes.

In no way am I suggesting that you should ease off your current regime but I honestly followed the following and never had a problem.

1. Buy gas permeable lenses.
2. Wear them
3. Take them out.
4. Soak them in saline overnight.
5 Put them back in
.
.
.
.
213213. Lose a lens on the bathroom carpet and just wear one for a week.
213213. Find said lens on bathroom carpet screwed up and stuck together and all ..........yellowy shall we say.
213214. Soak it in saline overnight.
213215. Put it back in and carry on for another 6 months.

Now I', sure a lot of people will scream how irresponsible/lucky not to be blind etc I am, but I stick to my guns, the contact lens industry is basically a money making machine through fear.

But, hopefully you'll all take no notice of me and carry on religiously spending more money on your solutions (or one a day's) than you do on say..........health insurance.

Ah well, whatever, I've lost the will to write any more now.

GO AND GET LASERED !!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
Keep going for your eye tests.

You only get one life, don't ruin it.

If you don't get your eyes tested then all the opticians will lose their jobs including my missus then we'll be poor people and I won't be able to aford to buy all the beer I need and my life will be ruined.

So don't wreck my life, please

I'm on monthly disposables at Specsavers and I think its a yearly checkup. Don't know what the routine is with the daily jobbies though.

Thats wierd, I'm on DD and they post them to me - I only go in the place for the checkup, and thats only after a few 'our records show you have'nt had a checkup for over a year now etc' letters. Oh and the other time I went in was when I accidently threw away 3months supply of cleaning solution Note to self: Never tidy flat again..

For christs sake, £990 !! We're talking about never having to wear glasses/lenses again (until you become long sighted enough to wear reading glasses as you get older.

I didnt have £990 spare 'floating about' I paid £990 so I didnt have to have opticians bugging me, glasses 'floating about' and the inevitable waking up in the morning shouting 'It's a miracle, I can see again' only to realise that you forgot to take your lenses out followed by the panic as you try to take out the offending lens only to realise that the surface of your eye was stuck to it followed by a trip to A and E to have 6 gallons of water pured over your eyeball and 2 weeks of antibiotic drops !!! £990 ? F**king bargain !!

What do you drive? , little miss scrooge more like. Bloody hell, you probably pay more than that for 2 months worth of petrol.

How much have you spent on glasses/lenses/solutions so far ?

/Rant off

For lenses and glasses?

The glasses have lasted me over two years as my prescription han't changed. I paid just over £300 for them.
Lenses wise, they don't cost me much at all.

Car wise, I am letting my MY94 WRX go next Thursday.

I am not in a position to hand over £990, maybe some time soon I will. I have been off sick for a while, therefore what extra I earnt in overtime and bonuses etc, has been reduced to basic sick pay.

MY prescription is -8.5 and -8, they have said that although I can go for laser treatment, they cannot guarantee that I will not have to wear glasses after the treatment.

Tell me now, do you think I should go for it?

Okay

Well, in a couple of months time I should be able to afford to get it done as I am returning back to work at long last, so I will look into places and prices.
