Changing the leather seat colour. Dyeing ?
Just how successful would it be to have the leather seat colour changed from grey to mid-tan ? I was thinking of having them dyed, professionally, not a DIY effort but wondered if it really works and looks OK.
Has anyone had the seats dyed a different colour and what were the results like ?
Thanks

Kind of related but our old E39 has had its seats recoloured in its previous life, but to the same colour to hide scuffs and staining and fading.
Well the car is 20years old, it was done about 15years ago and it's now spent the past five years shedding dandruff as the paint is flaking off the seats. Seems to be worse where the sun hits it, like the rear headrests. Luckily it's mostly the same colour underneath so it doesn't look too bad and car's near the end of its life so the state of the seats aren't the main concern.
Probably worth pointing out that leather isn't dyed. Suede is. Leather is painted with a highly flexible coating. How good that is and how long it lasts is based on the durability/quality of the paint, primers and fillers used and how well it sticks , which is mostly down to clenliness, prep, prep and prep.

Easy DIY ...did this on several cars incl 2 classic Porches
Old threaad buy FYI for anyone else
Buy products from FurnitureClinic ... best quality in my experience and they offer a colour match service. Half litre will paint all seats.
1. Wipe off existing sealer .... FC have product or use alcohol (not Stella)
2. Clean / wipe down ....mild fairy then clean water ... let dry
3. Fill any cracks with cream from FC ....... tears / holes can be repaired but need need underpatch. Stitching needs professional or mum
4. Apply paint in several light coats ... simple dab on with sponge ..... FC airbrush not needed but better for final coat
5. Apply sealer with sponge
I like to leave time between coats .... 1 hour .... or use a hair dryer.
Perfect job for around £50
