train prices to london.........yikes
so me and the mrs need to get to London on Friday to pick up her new civic type r, we never use public transport so imagine my horror when I check prices for us both.
I was expecting to pay around £20 each lol..............how wrong was I.
£130 for us both
really don't fancy driving down as the focus is using more oil than petrol at the minute and I'm not keen on running the impreza down there.
shows how out of touch I am with current prices

Trainsplit
Raileasy.co.uk.
Split tickets normally cheaper....
booking way in advance is the big saver though.

Believe it or not it's often much cheaper and quicker to fly than take the train. I picked up a car in Scotland not too long ago only cost me about 40 quid and a crate of beer for a lift to the airport and train fare was nearly 80 and 3 times the time to get there. Seller picked me up at airport happy days.
How they can justify train fares is beyond me

Supply and demand: Over the past few decades more and more people have decided to work in London as the wages are higher, along with big paying employers who insist on setting up base there. Creating a influx of commuters living outside where property is cheaper and business overheads lower, therefore overloading the transport infrastructures: The roads clogged up first and excessive parking/congestion charges (as well as traffic) pushed them all onto trains all of which has pretty much zero capacity expansion.
As mentioned you can get cheaper tickets if you go off-peak, ticket split or drive part way and just use the train for the last bit; Just pick your stations wisely.
